Doot 2
LGBTQ+ communities have come a long way — with more progress yet to go, especially for LGBTQ+ people of color, transgender, non-binary, and queer communities. As culture and language change over time, questions have been raised whether in today’s landscape, the name Boystown supports a message of diversity and inclusivity, or if it reinforces bias and discrimination. We invite you to participate in the survey below to help us move forward with respect to 1) marketing and 2) city designation of our community widely known as Boystown https://northalsted.com/survey/

I’m a gay male and never thought about Boystown needing a name change. That being said, I can very much see how the name isn’t inclusive. My boyfriend and I APPLAUD them for this move! Religion is a product to sell.

Liberal identity politics plays this game with symbolic change when we need actual tangible protections for the trans community. That being said, I won’t fight against any symbolic changes and welcome them but I want systemic change more.
