They didn't Chromatica is the most Gaga album, its not a 'farewell' album like someone else said... Chromatica feels like the most authentic album Gaga has ever done. She clearly WANTED to do this album, not something to pacify her fans. She's never been that artist to do what her fans want Not to mention Joanne’s sound literally restored her good public image, and she went on to make country/rock ASIB which f*cking smashed and rocketed her to legend status. And pop music isn’t even that popular right now. Why would her label force her to do a pop album considering all of that? I’m sure they had some say along the lines of “don’t do another ARTPOP” that contributed to Chromatica being pretty “safe” sonically relative to BTW and AP. But I think if Gaga didn’t want to make a pop record, she wouldn’t be forced to. Yes she’s grown as an artist, but I don’t think that suddenly means she lost her passion for dance/electronic music. Like of course part of it was “my fans will love this and it will make them happy!” but I don’t think we need to go the extreme and say she only did it for us and hated it otherwise. (I like your mask, by the way!) The fans are ALWAYS begging for a pop/EDM record from gay icons. Literally. Just because she did do a dance record this time around (but very different to how she did before, and its a different type of dance record), it doesn't mean she gave into fans. If she did that, there would be The Fame Monster part 2 or another BTW, or another 80s album. Gaga has always been influenced by dance music in one way or another. Even on Joanne, Dancin In Circles and John Wayne are more 'dance' than anything on that record. Her career has been built on Dance music, pop music, and Jazz. So it was absolutely obvious that at some point in time, she was gonna go back to the dance floor that she fought for. Especially after ARTPOP which wasn't executing everything she wanted, and Joanne which didn't heal her father, a return to the dance roots (to me) was inevitable. I don't think she takes influence from fans as to what music to make. She said she doesn't want to be that type of artist who is part of the system... so I'm pretty sure that Chromatica, even though being dance, has nothing to do with fans wanting her to go a dance route and her giving in. This is her putting her all in and doing what she wants Edit: Thank you for saying that about my mask! Its important to wear one, and why not make it more comfortable or stylish? Pennywise 36,079
The fact that it makes Gaga feel very disingenuous when Gaga trieds to tie literally every single thing she ever does to her childhood passions and "kindness", and then when she's done with them she promptly forgets about them So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted. Seeka 12,372
That Gaga is a real person who can change and drop things because she doesn't feel it's a part of her current identity. That Gaga is mentally ill, which means she is no longer neurotypical, which means she cannot go about doing things as a normal person. That we do not have a patron and artist situation with Gaga. We have a customer and product relationship with Gaga. She owes us nothing. If you bought something, that's as far as it needs to go. Gaga does not have to do things for us. Taking her personal lyrics and giving them a glossy house music coating when really she'd rather keep digging into her own emotions and making honest music. But Joanne was not what people wanted. People begged her to be "weird." Enigma and Chromatica are like Gaga cosplaying as herself to please fans. the same thing can be said about Joanne, asib. Gaga cosplaying as a "stripped down" singer to please gp friendly audiences.
