What Jameela's doing is appropriating what Kim does to Jameela's own benefit with some passive-aggressiveness to her. Sure she has a point in calling out Kim's choices for how she's presenting her body to her audience (Kylie and her sisters had to pay I think like a 10M dollar lawsuit after promoting fake waist trainers/corsets).

But she's doing so by borderlining on shaming Kim with entitled statements of Kim's feelings on how she perceives her body, which is not for Jameela to say. And that type of conflict is also something to be careful with your own audience. Yes, there's a difference between body positivity, and promoting an unrealistic body image on a platform where young girls might do harmful things to themselves to achieve that image.

Perception on social media is a double edged sword situation, and while Jameela is all for women empowerment and how women are free to do as they please and "it’s my body my choice", at the same time she's dragging Kim for her choices... so which one is it. It's probably a wrong worded statement and she should've contacted directly to Kim and work together to elevate the conversation on these issues...

Exactly what I wanted to say. If Kim wants to look the certain way then who the hell are we to tell her not to? Let her be. If you’re for women then be for ALL women. I hate this one way feminism.” I am allowed to be curvy but you’re not allowed to be skinny because it’s unhealthy “ is NOT IT.

I think you’re missing my point here. I hope everyone agrees that women should be fully allowed to do whatever they want to do, with their bodies as well, including Kim. I don’t think that anyone said either that skinny is bad. However it’s more complicated in case of Kim because she has a huge following and with the image she’s emphasizing and the unhealthy products she’s been promoting she has a negative impact on many women. That’s what Jameela has called out, not her being skinny. And of course she can be like “yeah whatever” - she’s free to do that too but if you’re not considering the impact of your actions then your integrity is questionable.

What I’m trying to say is that you should do whatever you want to do - but please consider the negative impact it might have on others especially in a position where you’re this influential.

Kim K started doing her butt in the era where blondes, tall and skinny girls with no butt was popular.

Something tells me Kim K enjoys this kind of body and didn't feel pressure to fit in a "body ideal" since the body she transformed into was not popular in her era.

Maybe people should relax and realize that some people wanna transform themselves and look good for themselves not others. Not everyone is insecure in this world. Just bcs Im a woman for example, won't mean when I see Kim K i think 'wow i could never look like that', I never look up to Kim K, i know many of my friends or sisters don't look up to that body, we all have our own preferences. Some are very insecure and that's more important with YOUNG girls, their minds are not formed yet.

Would Jameela say Dita Von Teese has went thru trauma bcs she decides to look like the perfect 1950s pin up girl wearing corsets and high heels? Dita enjoys that look. Sometimes I enjoy wearing a tight dress and push up bra, does that mean I hate my body and went thru trauma bcs I want an unrealistic ideal body for myself and I'm very very insecure about it.

Jameela is reaching

I mean good for her. Kim is the most followed person on earth, is a beauty influencer, a model and a mother, she has a considerable impact on western beauty standards. We've seen how the entire world has adopted the contouring technique (stolen from the art of drag btw).

The problem here is that she promotes on social media her version of the ideal body when it has been created with artificial methods, sports and nutritition coachs, photo editing and it all costs a ton of money. As a mega influencer, her image is ingrained in young people's brains as the norm, as something to look up to, without knowing what's happening behind the scenes.

I guess Jameela whould have the same thoughts about Dita. She did waist training with corsets to attain such a figure. She literally hurts herself on the daily for years in the name of the "ideal" 8 shape. In the Victorian era, women died from suffocation or organs injuries from wearing corsets. All in the name of the "ideal" silhouette, imposed by male views on women's bodies. Kim perpetuates the exact same idea, just with modern methods.

Jameela's post was more about calling out how patriarchy has always forced body stereotypes on women, using Kim as an exemple, not a personnal attack on her nor her body.

If I contour myself drastically and take selfies of myself, does that mean I try so hard to fit in the western beauty ideal?

Yes. Just as I was unwillingly biased by muscle queens from IG and p0rnstar actors. It's scientifically proven, social medias affect our body image.
