Regardless of how light/severe you think the consequences should be, we need to condemn his behavior. It’s just wrong.

Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time.

Never one to watch youtubers and had no idea who this Shane Dawson person was. Googled him up, and wish I didn't.

It's kinda funny, this type of humor is what made Shane Dawson filthy rich back in the early 2010's. People LOVED it and teens thought it was hilarious. Now everyone is offended by it... like where have ya'll been?

I totally agree with this.

Look, I'm not defending Shane's actions whatsoever. His jokes were disgusting, vile, and abhorrent. I'm someone who enjoys "dark humor," but what Shane would do back in the day can't really even be classified as "humor." It's just gross and disgusting.

That said, I do think people need to stop acting like angels. I'm not saying that everyone made "jokes" to the level Shane did back in the day, but let's not forget why he became so well known in the first place...People loved his content. It was controversial, and "cOoL" and "EdGy" to make those kinds of jokes, and you know what? People ate it up.

As much as we need to put the blame on Shane for these disgusting jokes, let's also evaluate ourselves (or at least, those who supported Shane and people like him in the beginning)...It takes more than one person to become famous.

Preach. His content was definitely "edgy". I'm just surprised more people weren't offended back in 2011 as they are in 2020.

At this point his apologies all blend together. He's done so many apology videos and apology tweets that it's difficult to keep track. Honestly, this one seemed no different than his other apologies.

Sure, technically speaking, he can't do anything to erase his past. His past will always be there somewhere out on the internet.

That's one of the reasons I hate cancel culture: like, what do y'all want him to do now? Shane hasn't made content like that in literal years, so I do think that to some degree, he has changed, that said, some of the things he used to do and joke about back in the day are just so despicable that I completely undertand and accept the fact that people still don't forgive him.

The whole drama surrounding Shane these past few weeks has me conflicted. I was a huge, huge fan and supporter of Shane going back a few years ago, and I do think he is legitimately sorry for what he's done and said, but also, I can't and don't blame people at all for hating him. He was an adult, he should've known better.

What I'm more concerned about is who Shane is as a person today. I'm honestly more concerned about the whole James/Tati/Jeffree situation and how he handled that. His tweet a week ago was disgusting and gross. That tweet showed that perhaps he didn't change as much as we thought he did.

This... I agree. But Shane made a video just yesterday addressing everything, taking accountability, and apologised. He literally said that the person back then does not reflect him now and he hates his former self.

I just find it ridiculous that people are still trying to come for someone who has already acknowledged their past wrongs, and has changed. Its just ridiculous to dig for anything to try cancel people on stuff they have already addressed.

people are allowed to not accept an apology or not like him after this, that's the thing. he didn't do anything to offend me, so it's rly not my place to accept/not accept an. apology from him, but I'm choosing to not support him because I don't believe that he's changed. and that's my prerogative.
POC are allowed to be offended and not accept his apology. off they're allowed to accept it, and that's ok too. it's individual.

Are you comparing actual physical violence to a comedy sketch where there was no one physically present except Shane himself?

Oh please, stop gaslighting my comment. The point is, people shouldn't cry about knowing the context first when what is being showed to them is already obviously ****ed up. This is one of those things where context isn't needed. And what even is the context behind that joke anyway? How do you excuse that? I get that cancel culture is toxic af but hating on it so much that you have to defend a person with pedophilic tendencies is also wrong. And just cuz people tolerated this in 2011 doesn't mean it shouldn't be condemned in 2020.
