"Ex-Mami Gardens police officer Jordy Yanes Martel has been arrested and charged with battery and official misconduct after kneeling on a pregnant black woman's neck while tasing her multiple times in the stomach."

While the incident occurred in January, footage has been released along with notice of his firing and charges. The woman has been identified as 33-year-old Safiya Satchell, who was a few weeks pregnant at the time, and would unfortunately lose her child.

Police say they arrived to a strip club called Tootsies Cabaret after receiving a call that Satchell got into an argument with the manager over food. Subsequently, the manager asked police to cite her with a trespassing warning. As Satchell tried to leave, ex-officer Martel asked her to come to his patrol car to show identification. She refused, saying she didn't have shoes on. Martel became angry and went to drag her out of her car and begin tasing her."

We honestly need to defund and reeducate cops. And maybe show more realistic depictions in media. Many characters like Eliot Stabler and Sealy Booth are shown with guns and aren't really punished. Instead their therapy is played more for humor.

It gives people the wrong impression.

OMFG WHAT DID I JUST WATCH!!!!

they only charged him with battery! They should charge him with murder! For killing her unborn baby!

I hope he gets slapped with much more charges and civil lawsuit and take all his money away and the state's money

I need to stop reading these threads. Being an African-American male, this upsets me too much.

And which context would be a good excuse that the police is allowed to torture a woman?? A pregnant woman?????

Dafuq? That's a pregnant woman that they were tasering in the stomach. They were also kneeling on her neck. In context or not, that's ****ing wrong and messed up.

I doubt they would have known she was pregnant tho if she was just a few weeks like the article said. That's probably the portion in the title to get more clicks but we all know that's media

Setting that aside I really don't get so many of these cops and agression or disproportionate unjustified force. She was already down and they tazed her yet again

I legit think some cops get this thrill of these situations like they are in a movie or something and get some kind of pleasure of being assholes and utter trash

One thing all these videos surfacing have in common besides racial bias is that the force and agression the police demonstrate is always extremely disproportionate to the situation. They don't just fail to use de-escalation techniques. They literally throw gasoline into the fire :madge:

Oh I'm sure they didn't know at the time but it is a fact that a pregnant woman was tased so whatever context that user wanted it doesn't change that fact. The idea in general though of being tased in the stomach repeatedly pregnant or not sounds awful

I was just pointing out that aspect out because everyone is talking like as if the cop knew that.

This isn't to justify what he did, this was gross and he definitely should be charged and face jail time

But I don't like sensationalism either

In my opinion taking a legitimately bad situation but then adding a dash of salt and pepper to make it just a tad bit worse I think is an issue among people and the media that makes social divides between sides worse and I don't think it helps the other side see what they need to see

People that don't acknowledge there's issues (or people that severely downplay them) will always pick up on sensationalism and then proceed to shrug it off as people being extra

I know it's an unpopular opinion on this site but I think justice needs to be fought purely with truth and facts. Add ons or sensationalism just end up detracting from the people who need to take this stuff more seriously but don't

This video is bad enough and speaks for itself without having to add the idea that the cop tazered a pregnant woman as if he did it knowing she was pregnant
