Today we are thrilled to share a first glimpse of a project Imagineers have been working on since last year. Splash Mountain – at both Disneyland park in California and Magic Kingdom park in Florida – will soon be completely reimagined. The theme is inspired by an all-time favorite animated Disney film, “The Princess and the Frog.” We pick up this story after the final kiss, and join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.

The voice of Princess Tiana and Tony Award-winning actress, Anika Noni Rose, shared, “It is really exciting to know that Princess Tiana’s presence in both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom will finally be fully realized! As passionate as I am about what we created, I know the fans are going to be over the moon. The Imagineers are giving us ‘The Princess and the Frog’ Mardi Gras celebration we’ve been waiting for, and I’m here for it!”

The approach to retheming or “plussing” attractions (as Walt Disney referred to it) begins with Imagineers asking the question, how can we build upon or elevate the experience and tell a fresh, relevant story? It’s a continuous process that Imagineers are deeply passionate about. And with this longstanding history of updating attractions and adding new magic, the retheming of Splash Mountain is of particular importance today. The new concept is inclusive – one that all of our guests can connect with and be inspired by, and it speaks to the diversity of the millions of people who visit our parks each year.

I am glad they’re doing this! The characters come from a horribly racist movie.

All I ask is that they can keep or do something else with Zip-a-dee-doo-dah:bradley: Not necessarily play it in the ride, but do something with it.

The really fantastic thing about kindness is that it's free -Lady Gaga

Pop Music

I have been on both of the versions in both of the U.S parks and I honestly loved the theming but understand the racist tone of the film it comes from and agree this should be changed

Love this new Princess and the Frog design. Justice for that film

Pop Music and Lady Gaga forever!

With how long it takes Imagineering to prototype stuff and how involved their work is, I highly doubt this is a knee jerk reaction to the petitions a few months ago.  Either way I'm excited to see this!  In DL it fits the New Orleans square nicely too! And even outside of the controversy, Walt seemed to be all about Disneyland/WDW constantly reinventing themselves so it feels right to me to have the theming evolve to meet a new generation with characters they know and understand.

I absolutely hate Splash Mountain but I'm gonna make myself suffer to see this when it's done :smh:

Oh man. I tried to watch Song of the South on bootleg a long time ago because of the ride. There definitely are questionable problematic things in the film so I wonder how these cartoon characters were so popular throughout the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. The reason Eisner chose these characters is because they were still very popular, even though I hadn’t heard of the movie as a kid.

I think the theming is perfect for Disneyland’s New Orleans square. The film itself has some great songs and I make sure to clap and sing along during the Tiana segment during the Mickeys Magical Map show (not too many ppl know the songs). It just leave Critter Country to be a little bare with only the Winnie the Pooh ride.

Disney has been updating a lot of their attractions to current IP’s so I think it makes sense. If they do this then they HAVE to make Tianas Place! I also hope they add her best friend Charlotte to this ride because she is my favorite.

Cool. Was "The Princess and the Frog" not featured anywhere in the park before this?

Parades, meet and greet, and merch. In CA, Tiana is basically the grand finale to Mickey and the Magical Map show and she makes appearances in the little stage in the outdoor patio at the French Market restaurant where a band performs jazz songs through the day.

I am glad Tiana got some justice. It is already bad enough she had to spent almost most of the movie being a frog than showing the black excellence she is.

Yay! I'm very excited about this. I love the ride, but a refurb is desperately needed. The Princess and the Frog is the perfect choice.
