Absolutely. It’s hilarious to see the same logic.

What is being talked about is the modern western music industry which is all influenced by black people.

Not that hard to understand.

Cool you were able to interpret this from a sentence "all music is black music"

You know that all =/= modern western music industry, right?

Yes, I was able to interpret that because Lady Gaga is a western artists tweeting about a group backed by western artists who are trying to solve western issues.

Straight from Billboard:

Cardi B, Travis Scott, Pharrell and Sean "Diddy" Combs are among artists endorsing the advocacy organization's open letter calling for immediate action toward lasting change.

Calling on the music industry to "put a plan for change in place … within the next 30 days," more than 30 preeminent artist managers, attorneys, business managers, agents and other industry professionals have united as the Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC). The advocacy organization, working in alliance with #TheShowMustBePaused, pledges to not only advance racial justice in the music industry but also in society at large in keeping with the mission of Black Lives Matter.

"We are encouraged by recent efforts by Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Sony Music, Apple, YouTube, BMG and other industry participants," the BMAC states in its open letter to the music industry. "However, we know that more needs to be done and we must do it together."

Outlining its top priorities moving forward, the BMAC wants to meet with each company's CEO, senior management and heads of their newly formed task forces to "mutually develop a plan to address the deeply rooted systemic racism in our industry" involving Black artists and executives. In addition, BMAC wants to have a voice in determining how funds supporting Black community organizations focusing on education, social justice, financial literacy, mental health and other initiatives are allocated and distributed "because so few companies in the music industry are run by Black people. It is essential that the funds are used to benefit the Black community that the music industry has relied upon for so much of its success."

I’m glad I got such a wholesome reply! Definitely calms the animosity & yeah I can drop some links if you actually want! This one is particularly great & mentions a documentary on comedy!

I appreciate you taking the time to read my short story, lol. After a while you just get sick of arguing with strangers to get nowhere with it, aside from being annoyed with them and yourself.
An open and respectful convo is the way to go, and it’s worth something to resist the urge to fight when you get rubbed the wrong way. I enjoy that GGD is a community that holds one another accountable. Thank you for the link!

She's an American artist whose music is very specifically Western Pop Music, posting in the middle of a very obvious, far-reaching historical moment that focuses on anti-Black racism. Like are y'all forreal?

Meanwhile, y'all are saying "but what about traditional polynesian music????" lmaoooo

Like, I'm sorry but when y'all see Black Lives Matter, do you also go "BUT WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE DYING IN YEMEN?" like its the oppression olympics??? I stg y'all are all lives mattering Gaga's post and it's just wild to see it.

Ok, if that's how you perceived the message of the pic than you are right.

My point was that the picture is misleading and posting the pic that was shared in this thread would actually educate people and would be better than just some blank statement with no informational value.

My issue was with the wording, not with the message.

Yikes, what is going on here? :green:

Absolutely no need for the 'b-b-but that's not factually correct!!1!' hand-wringing :green: It's a show of support for a long-suppressed group not some threat to non-Black musicians :green:

Most of now days music started with black folks music. Think like blues, jazz from that genre where made other New genres like rock and so on. Evolution of music which started with black people:staymad:

I understand that, but didn't every human evolve from black ancestors? Good on them recognizing music's origins but I'm not sure what does a white artist's work nowadays has anything to do with the origins of music... That's like saying that all bakers owe their hard work to whoever invented bread.

But I guess the US (and by consequence people on the internet) are too focused on what's in the past to actually realize those people in the past have nothing to do with the people in the present, besides leaving us their bloodline and culture practices. And that comes from a bigger problem of generalization, which is what got us started with racist nonsense in the first place.

Either way, go go modern black artists and businesses! :whitney:

shame

"music" in this context is obviously referring to commercialized music that was cultivated in capitalist western countries. when we think of music in the 21st century, we think of music that drives global industries, earns profit and garners mass and niche appeal. we're not discussing cultural music of different religions or histories because it's irrelevant to the issue of musical appropriation within a global culture that under-appreciates contributions by black musicians and artists

Listen I hear your point, yes it would have been cool to see more than just the image, but I also gotta ask, why is it that its easier/quicker to point out "well but Beethoven wasn't black" (tho he might have been lmao) rather than google what the BMA coalition is (whom she tagged in her post)?

What about "All Music is Black Music" triggers that level of instant critique? Y'all might wanna check that.

No I don't. Nice ignorant generalization though, good job!

It's called context, people.
