HEARTSTOP 3,154
I think we all grew up seeing him on the TV. Interesting fact: he represented Angola in a couple of Olympic Games, in the swimming category. You never know what someone has on their mind...suicide can be lurking in anyone's mind at any time, and unfortunately there's not much we can do if they don't reach out. The saddest part is that he had 5 kids. Spoiler Something not really but somewhat related, that ties in with the Lagos party being discussed on the other thread: last night the police had to disperse a party of 1000+ people on the beach extension that his body was found. Yes, 1000+ people on the same area were dumb enough to go to a night party with a deadly pandemic going around. IDGAF
Galactic Mess 1,393
I don't know him, but that's tragic nonetheless. I hope his family is ok.

Even after I moved to Canada my dad had one of the Portuguese channels installed (RTP International) so I've seen different stuff he was in When I first heard a portuguese actor commit suicide i never thought it was him. AlexanderMagno 10,746
He was a very popular actor. This is indeed shocking, his depression was not known by the general public at least. As for the goodbye letters, the two friends who allegedly received these letters have stated this is false, they didn't get any goodbye letters. Not sure if that's true or they are just trying to keep that private (apparently both friends were the ones calling the police). This happened today, so lots of news happening right now and very few are reliable. It's very sad. He has 5 children and he was getting married next year... Despite being a very unfortunate circumstance, I hope this is one more reason to raise awareness about depression and psychiatric disorders in this country. Many lives can be saved. May he rest in peace.

But yeah it's shocking I liked this actor btw off topic but I'm writing a letter to my aunt in Portugal and I forgot how to start one in Portuguese like in English I'd write "Dear Luisa". What do you write in Portuguese letters? also at the end what do you write for "sincerely"? thanks. Sorry for going off topic but my parents are out and I can't ask them

Probably happened shortly before, since he was last seen yesterday. 5 minutes ago, Economy said: like in English I'd write "Dear Luisa". Sorry for going off topic but my parents are out and I can't ask them Well, since it's for your aunt, I'm assuming it's informal, so... Just write whatever you feel like you can say "Querida Luisa" yes, and end with something like "a big kiss" = "um grande beijinho". I mean, I wouldn't think too much about it. "Cumprimentos" sounds very formal. I guess it depends on the person you are writing the letter for, and what you want to say.

She hasn't been able to work cuz of the cancer and her kids are on reduced hours so besides a comforting letter my brother and I are sending them money as well and I'm gonna ask my parents if they wanna send any as well which I'm sure they will Im so glad I have a good paying job now and can actually help my family. I wanted to do this sooner but I was too broke

The Canadian Dollar has been tragic the last few years because of low Oil and other resource prices which our currency is so influenced by 1 Canadian Dollar right now only buys 66 Euro Cents. Add exchange fees and for every $100 I can only get 60 Euros But between me, my brother and my parents we can definitely send enough to make a difference. my new job pays good. But I've only had it for like 6 weeks after being unemployed for months so I just didn't get the opportunity to save a lot just yet

But like I said, ever since the on and off Oil Crashes that started in 2014 and other resources that we sell a lot of... Our currency strength has been somewhat impacted, and tragically... Struggling Resource influenced currencies are so volatile. In like 2010 it surpassed the US Dollar parity by 14%. $1 Canadian Dollar bought $1.14 USD... There's been times where it has traded as low as $0.62 USD or half the 2010 peak The Canadian Dollar is not a stable investment to have. It's really more like gambling
Guest
Depression is a very deadly disease. If we can get rid of the stigma and see it for what it is and offer treatments like any other deadly disease out there, it would save so many lives. Idk why people are surprised when they see that the individual had a great life, a great job he/she loved, was about to get married or to go on an exciting new adventure in their lives. Of course with depression it doesn't matter, if it kills it kills, and a major extreme lack of serotonin in the brain is pretty dangerous, that needs to be addressed in a more scientific/medical way instead of seeing it as a 'joy vs sad' it's not about joy, it's not about the individual not being able to find happiness in their lives, I truly believe none of us ever find happiness in the long term but strive to find joy which some of us can find. But all of this is completely irrelevant when it comes to depression, the brain chemicals are severely altered and as a result suicidal thoughts pop up. It's a disease and as someone who've suffered with depression that is a cause of comorbidity with OCD, I feel sorry that he couldn't find great treatments. May he rest in peace now
