lavenderblondee 3,695
Out of all the threads I thought I'd read today this certainty was NOT IT. I will say, I'm trying to end the stigma and I always will admit I've had it before. I got it from a long term boyfriend in college and there were zero symptoms/it was cured by taking one pill. Who knew how long I had it for. I stress to people it's v important to get tested frequently.

HSV hasn’t got the same level of attention or treatment as HIV and in my view probably just as much emotional toll on the person or even worse as it shows physical symptoms and scaring. Who is that and why is this something the public needs to discuss? I know others have responded already, but if you haven't seen it, I cannot recommend his film Call Me By Your Name highly enough - easily one of my favorite films ever. Sweet, romantic, and gently heartbreaking!!

I agree that it shouldn't be stigmatized - but people NEED to be getting tested, too many people are lazy and lax with that or assume they can trust people's words and take hella risks, it is so easy to accidentally catch something from someone you don't know had something (they might not even know they have something - bc they haven't been tested). chlamydia may be curable, thank god, but STDs/STIs can damage your body long term if you don't get them treated ASAP or have other underlying conditions. For most people, you'll be fine, but some people's immune systems are more at risk.
