I like Sour Candy, but as a “duet” it’s disappointing compared to ROM/SFA

There is little to no actual duet in the song, BP and Gaga’s parts are completely separate. Like it was a last minute rent-a-rapper remix that Katy used to do, of a solo Gaga song.

ROM is an amazing duet. Ari is masterfully layered in after her solo verse. The call and response in the second prechorus, the harmonizing in the second chorus, the awesome contrast between Gaga’s commanding speaking voice and Ari’s angelic vocals in the bridge, and then exchanging belts in the final chorus.

SFA, while not as much as ROM, still has some great harmonizing between Gaga and Elton in the back half of the song.

I wish BP came in on Gaga’s second chorus in SC, and that there was more interplay between the two artists on the outro instead of once again, separate verses.

Anyone else get what I mean?

It feels like the only one out of the three duets that should've been called a feature

True. I actually expected a duet chorus where they sing all together.

Spoiler

Yeah, exactly! It’s definitely more of a feature, like Telephone.

I agree, ROM and SFA feel like true artistic collabs, where the artists worked on the songs and put their heart and soul into them, where with SC, you feel like Gaga and Blackpink never even met, and didn't write the song together, or were never even in the same room as the other.

Born in Chromatica

Yeah, I have to agree, Sour Candy not really a duet at all. Like Bobina said, it should be a feature rather than duet. Lady Gaga and Blackpink sing side by side and because of the song's short length, the song sometimes felt it needed more to make the song feel more of a duet like ROM and SFA. In terms of the duets in Chromatica, Sour Candy was definitely the most over hyped, even though I do like the song.

No shade to BLACKPINK but I wish Sour Candy was a full Gaga track or the song was longer to enjoy each artist.

As much as I dislike that idea, I think I agree. With Ari you could tell how passionate they were about the song and how they became great friends because of it, and of course we already know Gaga and Elton are close.

i keep wanting to hear more about the story behind sour Candy, but I’m beginning to fear there isn’t much of one.

I really think the girls should have had a 30 second worth of lines.

A Lisa and Jennie rap verse would be great, and add Rosé's solo part and harmonize with Gaga while Jisoo gets the bridge.

I see what you mean but I guess she wanted it this way. Maybe she wanted the contrast of their voices rather than a blending. Maybe she did try it with them singing together but liked it better this way.

I'm sure it's not because they weren't in the same room because Elton was on tour when they recorded him for SFA

100% agree here. Had this happen it would have made up what lacks in the track.

Still like the song the way it is though. :vegas:

SC kinda feels like two different songs meshed together. BlackPink's part feels disjointed from Gaga's.

Bonkers

The problem with sour candy is that it sounds like it was written by Artificial Intelligence (AI).  It sounds like a computer analyzed pop & kpop music and spit it out.

I quite like it, but I think that's the truth.
