Mills 446
Billboard: Justin Timberlake Hits No. 1 for First Time on Social 50 Chart Move over Bieber, there's a new Justin in town (again). Concurrent with the release of Justin Timberlake's first album in 6 years, "The 20/20 Experience," the pop star has propelled to the No. 1 position on Billboard's Social 50 chart for the first time. He first broke the top 10 of the Social 50 the charting week ending on Feb. 23 thanks to the VEVO debut of his video for "Suit and Tie." The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, Wikipedia, Myspace and Instagram. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist pageviews, song plays and reactions. The Tuesday (March 19) Timberlake dropped "20/20 Experience," he also released the official music video for "Mirrors," the album's second single. In the week that followed, the video received over 10 million views which contributed in part to the over 19.9 million total views counted towards Timberlake's Social 50 ranking for the week. A 2.7% rise in reaction/engagement on Facebook led to the addition of over 270,000 new fans on the platform (up 58% over the previous week). Timberlake also added 328,000 followers on Twitter (up 7%). Here's the full article.
Mills 446
FORBES: Was Justin Timberlake Forced by LIVE NATION Into Making '20/20'? The hype surely helped move albums this week, especially since Timberlake has been on a six-year hiatus from music. But it now looks like the excessive hype was for a reason. According to an article in The Hollywood Reporter, Timberlake had to come up with a new album to fulfill his contract with Live Nation. Inked in 2009, the deal required Timberlake to go back out on tour at some point. Tours are usually launched to promote new music. According to multiple sources, a 2009 partnership with Timberlake, structured after Jay-Z‘s game-changing $150 million Live Nation 360 deal and Timberlake’s AEG-promoted, $126 million-grossing 2007 FutureSex/LoveShow tour, was quid pro quo for a touring commitment to Live Nation. In exchange, Timberlake received about $20 million  $5 million of it free and clear, or “a gimme,†as one insider describes it. (Worth noting: Timberlake could have returned it had he not toured.) According to the article, promoters were still worried that because of his long break, Timberlake might still not be able to sell out major venues. Enter his long-time friend Jay-Z who teamed up with Timberlake for the album’s first single, “Suit & Tieâ€, and will be touring with Timberlake this summer. The pair will reportedly split revenue from the tour 50-50. (Zack O’Malley Greenburg reports that Jay-Z will be getting more than Timberlake on the tour.) So is The 20/20 Experience really a return to music for Timberlake or just the last gasp of an old contract? Time will tell. Timberlake has said repeatedly that he wants to just focus on his acting and he’s doing a pretty good job at it. His films have grossed $1 billion at the worldwide box office. He’s costarred in one Oscar-nominated film, The Social Network, and next to Oscar-winning actors (last year’s Trouble With The Curve). His next film is the prestigious Coen Brothers movie Inside Llewyn Davis which hit theaters in November. Here's the full article.
Foxus 0
I'm happy he was able to make a comeback, and like the album, but it seems like the songs are so unnecessarily drawn out it's crazy. By the time you've finished listening to one song, you've completely lost interest in it.

It’s more than 100,000 ahead of the No. 2 album, the debuting “I Am Not a Human Being II†from Lil Wayne (217,000). Timberlake’s set is down by a moderate 67% in its second week. The last set to sell more than a half-million its first week was One Direction’s “Take Me Home†last November. It fell by 67% as well in its second week, moving from 540,000 to 176,000. Before that, the last half-million-plus start came a few weeks earlier, when Taylor Swift’s “Red†launched with 1.2 million. It slipped by 72% in its second week. After two weeks on sale, “The 20/20 Experience†has sold 1.29 million  becoming the only album to sell 1 million copies this year. A week ago, “20/20″ instantly became the year’s biggest selling album after selling 968,000 in its first week. Source: Billboard 20/20 #1 in Australia for a 2nd week The 20/20 experience is the #1 album in the world As you know The 20/20 experience is smashing them charts. From mediatraffic.de: As expected, Justin Timberlake third set ‘The 20/20 Experience’ shoots atop the global album chart with enormous 1,29 million sales. It’s the biggest weekly frame by an album since Taylor Swift’s ‘Red’ album started with 1,46 million copies in the week 45, 2012. The incredible success of ’20/20 Experience’ are mainly based on huge sales in three countries: USA (968.000), United Kingdom (106.000) and Canada (46.000). Justin Timberlake’s last album ‘FutureSex / LoveSounds’ bowed with 932.000 copies in its initial week (39, 2006) and sold nearly 9 million units to date. His debut ‘Justified’ from 2002 is short behind with 8,5 million total sales. The 20/20 experience stays at #1 for a 2nd week in the UK Depeche Mode’s Delta Machine is held off the top of the Official Albums Chart as Justin Timberlake makes it a second week at Number 1 with The 20/20 Experience. With just 4,000 copies separating the two acts on Wednesday’s Official Chart Update, it was looking like a closely fought battle for this week’s Official Albums Chart crown, but Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience eventually pulled away to end the week almost two copies to one ahead of the competition.
