Helix 1,459
Maybe in mainstream pop we'll see less full-length albums, but I don't think they'll go away completely. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the Western pop scene started taking after Kpop in that acts will release "mini albums" (essentially EPs) every few months or once a year when they have their comebacks. The mini albums basically get released on the same day as the lead single and they have tons of performances lined up to promote it, etc etc. It feels like a pretty smart way to capitalize off of streaming, by giving everything in one small burst. Although, like I said, I think there will always be a place for albums, they might just be less frequent in favor of smaller releases that are easier to profit off of. Genuine Guy 09 13,941
No - I know what you're going for with this though - but I disagree The #1 thing I think a label wants is money... and more revenue comes through albums and touring than a hit single (I guess as its more expensive). I feel like the end goal of an artist is to get off pop radio and become a strong brand with a base - it's 10x more lucrative and helps longevity The thing with Katy is, she put so much faith in singles and pop radio and never expanded beyond that - it's a superficial way of staying relevant, hence she has 0 fans now I thin dua is 100% trying to make that transition after a decent singles era, the singles are like the stepping stones - but when you get a hit album, that's what can help you get a hit tour further deals etc So whilst being a pop radio darling is good - the goal should be to shift to album artist and then touring artist Stare at the Chartster in the mirror they talk to me too. #StreamFunTonight
huttont 5,210
Ava threw away any chance of another hit by testing the waters. She should have released her album within a few weeks of SBP going big. And held more of a mysterious persona. Ppl would have been more intrigued. But she still would’ve been called a “copycat Gaga”
mcphee 1,790
I'm not entirely sure that Ava's situation with so many singles released before the album is intentional... but with that being said I think its smart. For her debut shes now got a good catalogue of songs already and I don't know a bad one among them. In the streaming era it kinda makes sense too. When Dua released that whole album cycle felt over and done with within a week. Chromatica less so because ROM is doing so well. Its a good way of avoiding that problem... or just putting it off
