But that’s just it- she’s in the hospital because she was stabbed in the back by her record label. In 2011 her artistry was a lot more abstract still so having visuals of her with a scar on her back from a non-physical wound was still in her wheelhouse. Not to mention there’s the scene in her apartment where she picks up the phone and she says “it’s my manager! What does this mean “dropped”” before breaking down. Also, with her writing Interscope on her hand at the end, it suggests that the video takes place a few years after she was assaulted. As she’s said in recent years, it took her a long time to mentally digest everything that happened when she was raped because she was distracted by her own meteoric rise to fame. I don’t think she had full realized it quite yet before Interscope found her. All of this isn’t to say that the pain of the event didn’t inspire the dark imagery of the video.

The video seems to run in chronological order though. Why would she show herself as being in the hospital in the beginning of the video as a representation of being dropped by her record label, when the video flows and shows she's dropped from the record label AFTER she's returned from the hospital, as you've just described?

I really need you to re-watch the video! Because I would like to continue this discussion but the video really helps to put my points in context.

Didn't she say that is what the video is about? Didn't we know this?

Most people in here are aggressively arguing with me throughout here that it's absolutely not about it, so I guess not?

Hm first of all no and why the need to do another one second thread about this?:saladga: ... a thing that should never be discussed about , i'm sorry but there is nothing entertaining to talk about the trauma that Gaga has endured from the past and we all know she still suffer from it to this day, i don't think Gaga would enjoy coming here and find this thread where her fans are speculating about something serious like this it's a bit borderline , we should respect Gaga and don't forget that yes she's an icon, a legend but also an human being .

I'll keep looking for Wonderland

Based on the story depicted in the music video, it appears she was sexually assaulted and then dropped from her record label (we all know she was dropped from Def Jam).

In the beginning of the music video we see her in what appears to be a hospital, she cries as she tells the doctor: "I'm going to be a star...because I have nothing left to lose." We see her back is badly bruised. She then appears to go home, and gets a call on the phone where she angrily shouts (I believe) "but I'm an artist!" in French, and then she starts trashing her room and crying.

We later see her butt on the roof of a vehicle, she is hanging upside down with the rest of her body inside the vehicle. There are bruises on her back. When we see her face dangling inside the vehicle, her facial expressions make her look like she is in pain. There is the lyric "poke holes in the seats with my heels, 'cause that's where we make love," which seems to allude to having sex in a car, but could also be a clever way of describing her sexual assault. She blows up the car at the end of the music video.

Throughout the music video she seems to build herself back up, through learning how to dance, making and wearing funky outfits, busting her ass carrying her music equipment up and down the stairs (I believe there is also an allusion to the development of her eating disorder, in a short clip we see her rush into a bathroom stall at one point), being kind and spending time with friends, and eventually she gets what looks like a promising phone call. We see at the end of the music video, she is riding in the back seat of a car with the information for "Interscope Records" written on her hand. She is still signed with Interscope today.

I think the lyrics combined with the music video could very much allude to her addressing her sexual assault, then accepting and embracing the fact that she was sexually assaulted, coming back to herself, and moving on with her life and her career.

Considering all I've said here, watch the Marry the Night music video for yourself:

EDITED TO DELETE ANY ACCUSATORY REMARKS I INITIALLY MADE.

I think she was raped and had to get an abortion, she was in a woman’s clinic.

That’s personal to Gaga and let’s respect that.
we can analyze the video but speculating about that kind of stuff is crossing the line.

I understand that.  But it is what’s depicted in the video she released to the world.

You’re interpretation of it. But making a thread about discussing that is uncalled for. Is none of our biz.

the video for me is about being a star and the struggles to become Gaga.

Zilla

okay so out of respect for Gaga's personal life, please don't speculate or pry into her assault. Thanks!
