I didn't delete it, it was closed and for good reason as I was out of line. I am not looking for attention, I was just listening to Chromatica earlier and heard Fun Tonight, which has wildly been speculated here as being about her sexual assault, and I wondered what all the other songs were that she wrote about it in. It led me down that rabbit hole and I obviously jumped the gun in posting about it here. It is thankfully removed now and I have edited this post in the hope that it can actually be a discussion about the music video as I think I raised some interesting points. vyniildisk 12,689
Its not that deep. She wanted it to be a popstar like Britney.
Dr Fudge 8,625
I don’t think she was comfortable enough with talking about the incident just yet back in 2011. Definitely just about being dropped by Def Jam and how painful it was having gone from “about to be a star” to not being a star again. Been a cuff touple, a puff bupple, a tough couple of years. I think the depiction in the music video provides more context. This is just my opinion and I mean no disrespect by it!

I understand now, it's fine to speculate in a nonobsessive way, that's how you came across, it was kinda creepy. I think if you re-watch the music video with what I've said in mind you may see the allusions to her sexual assault I am talking about, the music video literally opens with her in a hospital with bruises on her back. Thank you for understanding I completely understand and regret how it could have come across that way. Not gonna lie I was also very stoned and have definitely felt like I'm losing my mind a bit in quarantine, I definitely was a bit out of touch when writing my first post and in carrying it over to this one. But that’s just it- she’s in the hospital because she was stabbed in the back by her record label. In 2011 her artistry was a lot more abstract still so having visuals of her with a scar on her back from a non-physical wound was still in her wheelhouse. Not to mention there’s the scene in her apartment where she picks up the phone and she says “it’s my manager! What does this mean “dropped”” before breaking down. Also, with her writing Interscope on her hand at the end, it suggests that the video takes place a few years after she was assaulted. As she’s said in recent years, it took her a long time to mentally digest everything that happened when she was raped because she was distracted by her own meteoric rise to fame. I don’t think she had full realized it quite yet before Interscope found her. All of this isn’t to say that the pain of the event didn’t inspire the dark imagery of the video.
