Possibly true but the Kanye album in question (and I recall Jay-Z's release some years ago) have the most obviously questionable numbers. They announced Jay-Z's album reached platinum almost immediately and someone did the math based on their existing customer-size and the time it took to reach the certification and the album must have been streamed on repeat nonstop by EVERY TIDAL user at the time.
