And don't come at me with that "destroying history doesn't erase rascism" BS.

Besides researching the person being idolized, you need to look up who sponsored its creation. What was their motivation for its construction? Who and WHAT is being memorialized? What exactly is trying to be preserved here?

Is the narrative of this monument actually erasing other histories?

What message does it's presence in public places of pride send to certain people?

For example

"She's an intellectual, your honor"

Do they really teach in public schools that Columbus proved earth was not flat in America ?

Do Americans not know that America is a continent independently from United States of America, and Caribbean islands such as Haiti is considered to be part of American Continent just like Britain is considered to be part of European continent despite being an Island ?

Regardless though, none of that decreases the importance of Columbus. It was Columbus' voyages that charted the routes to the lands that were shortly identified as a completely new land mass by following expeditioners. It is an appalling argument that a man who could successfully navigate a trip across atlantic ocean and be able to come back without any modern navigational tools or a power other than wind and ocean currents to guide his vessels was an incompetent buffoon.

Worth noting that Columbus was not the first outsider to reach North America, vikings were. What’s worse in most American schools is that they teach that he “discovered” North America which is a cute narrative but patently false, historically.

Americans actin like they’re not also the ones that came here and robbed all of the native americans and killed them. Like america is made up of immigrant people and most of them aren’t indiands so why the hell to they destroy something when they’re also the ones that live in the land that should be indians in the first place

Yaas, The black community taking back their power. Now lets fund more historically black schools and have more Black Museums celebrating black artists!

I really want Artists to make sculptures and statues dedicated to historical black figures, were taking the old problematic ones out, lets replace them.

Um they say Columbus' voyage to the Caribbean was a mistake, he was actually trying to sail to India and ended up in America... That's why they called Native Americans "Indians".

Americans hate hearing this, especially white people who are addicted to saying "go back to your country" when it isn't even their country in the first place.
