I think the important part is your first point. They're enabling racism (and homophobia, which is even more blatant). 

There are racists on both sides but the party where racist are welcomed with open arms is the Republican party. Throw these guys in a crowd of Republicans and then in a crowd of Democrats and you'll see very quickly which one beats their ass.
