White bystanders re-enact George Floyd murder as protesters march

Several men in New Jersey mocked anti–police brutality protesters by re-enacting the death of George Floyd, who was killed when multiple Minneapolis police officers pressed their knees into his neck and back on May 25.

Video footage recorded from several angles and posted to social media Monday shows one of the Franklinville, New Jersey, men pressing their knee into the neck of another as they shouted "this is what happens" at marching protesters. Two of the men, Jim and Joe DeMarco, posted their perspective of the event on Facebook as they shouted at protesters in front of a lumber yard. The New Jersey men repeatedly blamed Floyd for not "complying" with the police who ultimately caused his death. Signs touting President Donald Trump's campaign and "All Lives Matter" surrounded them as demonstrators labeled them "disgusting."

"This is what happens, this is what happens, comply with the cops, comply with the cops," the man can be heard saying as he presses his knee into the back of another man laying face-first in the ground. "This is what happens, comply with the cops. He's dead because he didn't comply."

Dozens of Reddit posts and tweets analyzed various angles of the incident, and at least two of the people were identified within hours.

The protest through the southern part of New Jersey was attended by Black Lives Matter protesters and dozens of participants carrying signs in support of racial equality. The local police could be seen escorting the marchers down Delsea Drive. The men holding American flags, Trump flags and re-creating Floyd's death engaged with protesters for several minutes as Franklin Township law enforcement officers could be seen trying to separate the two groups.

"Black lives matter to no one," one of the men recording the video can be heard saying in a version of the video posted to Twitter Monday.

"No justice, no peace," the protesters can be heard chanting. "Just keep moving," another protester is heard saying as several marchers react to the men re-enacting Floyd's death.

"Imagine being the guy who's face is pushed down into the dirt with your buddy's knee in your neck trying to make the protestors look stupid. Yeah, mmhm. Who is the stupid one in this situation?" wrote the original poster of one version of the incident on Monday.

There have been several cases of people "re-enacting" Floyd's killing across the country, including one Brentwood, New Hampshire, incident last week in which high school students were investigated by local authorities.

Newsweek reached out to the lumber business and the DeMarco family in Franklinville for comment Tuesday morning.

Wtf  That compliance argument is so tired. It doesn't matter if he complied or not, if he was a felon or not, if he was on drugs or not, the only thing that matters is he was restrained but the cop kept applying force and that proved fatal. Period.
