And the ARMYs achieved it in less than 24hour.

Three days after BTS spoke out against racial discrimination through a statement on Twitter, it was announced on June 6 that the group and its agency Big Hit Entertainment donated $1 million to Black Lives Matter.

The band has a history of raising their voice on social issues, and their influence over the years has resulted in the creation of a fandom, ARMY, that knows how to use its power for good.

Upon the news of the donation, ARMY followed BTS’ lead and were inspired to take even bigger action on their own.

Fans were on a mission to match the group’s $1 million donation, and hours later, #MatchAMillion started trending worldwide on Twitter as many were spreading the word about this special fundraising project.

It’s no doubt that when ARMYs set a goal, they work hard to achieve it. This was no different.

And in a little over 24 hours after the fundraiser began, they indeed raised more than $1 million.

People were encouraged to donate through a carrd created by One In An ARMY (OIAA), “a fan collective of volunteers around the globe.” Through the carrd, donors could select the “split donation” option that allowed the donations to be tracked.

Since the effort driven by OIAA began, the hashtag #MatchAMillion has garnered more than 490,000 tweets. The hashtag #MatchTheMillion was also created the following day so the topic could trend again on Twitter.

Fans also got the attention of people outside of the fandom who joined in and donated as well.

The K-pop group’s music label, Big Hit Entertainment, on Sunday told Reuters that BTS had donated $1 million to BLM in early June.

The seven-member BTS wrote on its Twitter account on Thursday that they are against racism and violence with the hashtag BlackLivesMatter.

“We stand against racial discrimination. We condemn violence. You, I and we all have the right to be respected. We will stand together.”

I'm glad their fans donated, but why wait until BTS spoke about it to donate? Did they not know what was going on until BTS said something? It kind of just seems like they did it to flex. But if BTS simply convinced them to give more, that's awesome.

I'm impressed :firega: The dedication. I don't like their music, but these guys are good role models.

They shipped it, but it got shipped back

That's not nice. Some times all people needed is a little nudge, which is fine.

They've been very vocal and donating on Twitter tbh.

Kindness rules all.

If Gaga did this, monsters will raise -$0.67 cents.

Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

Idk how, but I read it as "Bill Gates donates $1 Million to BLM & Their fanbase matches it with another $1Mil" :wtfga:

The confusion... :ladyhaha:

But great news nontheless! :applause:

Honestly I’m glad someone made a post about this on here because I noticed a LOT of BTS and Army hate on here. These boys are very kind people and the fact that they can influence their fans indirectly to follow their steps ( because nobody told their fans to do the same, they mobilized alone and did it even though they already have been donating and helping the movement by spamming apps and accounts and etc in help for BLM ), I think is even more incredible.

Why would she rely on lazy monsters when she can simply solicit on huge companies?
