Guest
Gaining brownie points on Twitter. She could've said something more than 'shut up' & actually try to make JK understand why she's annoying
Eighteen 5,420
17 minutes ago, JK Rowling said: You're not wrong. It's just the way Twitter Rowling phrased it comes across as trans-exclusionary. The issue stems from the fact that transwomen just want to identify as women, nothing more, nothing less. How many times do transwomen have to scream 'I AM A WOMAN' in order for the world to accept them as real women? JK Rowling wants to make the distinction between biological women and transwomen (she has her reasons, but there is also a consequence). It is true biological women menstruate (please no lectures on intersex) but the term 'woman' no longer applies to just biological females. That is what Twitter Rowling has failed to understand, or rather, opposes? I think she means well, but things are different nowadays. Transpeople still face discrimination and violence, and in order to overcome that, we ALL have to show kindness and acceptance; which means being careful with our choice of words. Words have power, just look at the success of the Harry Potter universe. They can change the way we view the world. For example, when I use the term 'transwoman', it just excludes them even more. To be honest, this is all first world shenanigans. The rest of the world have bigger issues to deal with, like the virus and poverty. I do not think Twitter Rowling is transphobic, her comments do not come from a place of hate, it's just that her idea of what it means to be a woman is old-schooled. At the end of the day, we are all just apes with smartphones... We're all inherently flawed but we can always learn from it. so the terms trans woman and trans man are dated? if so, how do trans people identify themselves like... if they go on a date and they want to disclose, what are they gonna say? alice911 536
The LGBT community worldwide should organise a mass burning party where they set a fire and throw all the JK Rowling books and Harry potter DVDs and burn them. Lets show her the power.

Flaviator 132
The Harry Potter series were a big part of my childhood and I still love it today but JK Rowling has lost all my respect. Love Sarah Paulson btw.

Slovakialop 2,258
This is so unnecessary. Let J.K.Rowling have her own opinion. Everyone has the right to have one, so have some respect for it even if her opinion doesn't match yours. Even if she is a TERF: she has the right to be one if she wants. Being conservative is as rightful as being progressist.

First of all, using those terms when it's not relevant is indeed offensive and discriminatory - like when someone says, "Karen's gay brother is actually really kind, he lent me his car. But also, transphobic people use "trans women" sometimes just to imply they don't really suffer mysoginy. In that sense, there's no need to make the cis/trans distinction. It is necessary when you want to acknowledge specific intersectional points (black women also suffer racism, trans women also suffer transphobia) but not when we are talking about feminism, which covers the common experiences of all women, including trans women.
