She abandoned her work for no reason. I mean, why would someone stop their lives because of the current situation when that's not need to? She already donated money, she let BLM organizations to control her instagram for a few weeks, she closed her store. She've done more than most people. Why pause or even cancel (who knows) the Chromatica era? I'm afraid Interscope won't invest big money in Chromatica anymore. They already did that with SL and she didn't talk about that song more than three times. They again promoted Chromatica all over the world in its release, but again she won't talk about it anymore.

Uh because the backlash would be huge if she continued promo? Like, how tasteless is it to be going “dance through the pain!” When every state in the US has had protests surrounding the disproportionate deaths of Black people? Chill tf out and just play the album. She’ll be back with promo, Interscope will invest in her. You’re wigging out over promo of an album while the world burns (and I say world because COVID is still a thing rampaging countries) and people are horrifically abuses by police. A little perspective, please.

There are protests in all 50 states and over 13 countries. Even children’s cartoon channels are taking time to go off the air. Almost no business is operating to its full extent as a means to support BLM. Right now almost nobodies priorities are to push projects and products - because they will be rightfully boycotted themselves if they do. Chromatica isn’t going to be dropped forever because of this - but it does need to take a sideline when things are this way. Gaga is using her platform and even Interscope themselves have delayed all their new releases that were for this week as a means to stand with BLM. Interscope and Gaga are on the same page here - as are many other people and companies.

Don't bring covid to this because she released the album, she was going to do a streaming party on friday, and the reason she canceled wasn't covid. People don't even care about it anymore. Eveyone is on the streets again. The backlash will happen regardless of her actions and they will come from the same people. I'm sorry to say this, but the black community doesn't like Gaga, they never did. They will drag her no matter what, while they praise Beyoncé, although she never did that much for them. And the USA isn't the center of the world. Everything is ""normal"" in my country and I bet it's the same for all the others. It's just the USA.

phew I am so happy that some of y'all ain't her manager 'cause if you were, she'd be so done for...

imagine a white woman promoting her song during this climate... are you out of your mind?

she doesn't have a white savior complex and tries to be the voice for minorities (which is something a lot of white celebrities get called out on)... she's instead supporting the movement financially and give them her platform to speak on and this is the right thing to do and god only knows whatever the hell else she's planning

she's so much smarter than a lot of y'all (proves it time and time again) and yet you're so quick to judge just to end up making some lame *ss apology thread!

I'm honestly very sad :(

I graduated this year ( next month officially ) and it was a horrible year and we suffered mentally and physically a lot so I was waiting for this to cure me a bit

This thread is evidence that the ability of people to think independently and logically has been totally eroded. Literally none of this makes sense if you had the self-control to remove yourself from toxic environments like Twitter / social media. People are saying how racism, etc. is a "global issue" in one post while stating "America thinks it is the center of the universe!" in another. So no economic activity, including within the music industry, happened during the Hong Kong protests, right?

Yes, fights need to be fought, but it's amazing how quick people in this thread are to say that anyone who has a negative reaction this is "entitled." No, it's entitled to think that you know enough about anyone on here to even use that label against them just because you're doing your best to imitate the Twitter group-think. Regardless of any awful events happening in the world, life has and has to move forward. You think cancelling Graduation for those who achieved a milestone in their lives and had its celebration stripped by a virus solves anything?

What is the tangible benefit of this cancellation? Please tell me how the world becomes better by telling Graduates their accomplishment can't be celebrated, that every global singer, actor, marketer, salesperson, grocer, etc.* should stop work because of ethnic cleansing in Burma? Starvation in Yemen? Uprisings in Hong Kong? Or, is the lesson to carry on until social media militarizes an issue and criminalizes any deviation in opinion? "Shut Up! ...or be canceled." Hosted by President Obama.

*everyone drags members not knowing their finances, health, struggles, etc. to defend a billionaire because she's "sensitive" and support her being allowed/forced to halt her career, so let's stop the artist or celebrity BS. She has a 'platform' because WE gave her one and *knew* part of the job ($350m net-worth) meant showing up. If it's 'selfish' to not understand why she ISN'T, then I guess it's selfish if my boss to expects me to show up? We can't elevate certain professions to demigod status and then blindly defend them when they don't act the part.

I feel bad for the fans who were supposed to be graduating this year because they were really looking forward to this. But I respect her choices. She's already done so much for people and is still focused on that so she must have valid reasons not to participate.

This tbh

It was a depressive nerve wrecking year and we still had to do extreme work especially us where this is final year at college , study and have exams and do projects and act like everything is fine and everyone ignored that this is mentally challenging to do all that while the whole world is upside down and I was looking forward to forget all that and cheer a  bit with my idol in that 2020 class graduation thing but guess she said f*ck you 2020 students :(

I didn’t read all the comments, but I just wanna say that we don’t know what she’s going through or how she feels. We all know she struggles with depression and just because she says she’s happy it’s not always the truth. One thing for sure I don’t think she cancels because she’s ‘above something’ or ‘doesn’t care’. She can sometimes seem like she’s detached from reality but I never doubt that her heart is in something for all the right reasons. I just think we have to take her mental health into consideration. I’m forever impressed by her fire.

Would've been an iconic time to play Angel Down.

GP would draaaaaaaaaaag Gaga downhill and say she is promoting her flop album Joanne in such difficult times. Nothing but Gaga pulling out of the event is the right choice tbh

I didn't ask for a free ride, I only asked you to show me a real good time.

I don’t think her removing herself from this event, if she did, is necessarily a bad idea.

As we’ve seen from her IG posts, she is focusing on amplifying the voices of others. That’s what she is doing with her voice right now.

If she feels this wasn’t the right moment for her to speak, because she didn’t feel like it was her place considering the American social and cultural context around her at this very moment, then so be it.

I think Gaga heightening the voices of organizations that are directly helping groups of people affected by the context of centuries-galvanized state-sanctioned brutality and its respective nationwide protests > a performance

I’m disappointed we won’t get to see her, but I understand.

I don’t think she’s pulling out because she’s afraid of getting dragged, I don’t think anyone WOULD drag her for participating in this.

Which leads me to believe she’s it doing it for personal reason. Maybe she simply doesn’t feel up to it? I trust she’s doing her best, and what she feels she can.

I feel so selfish for being upset but I was really looking forward to this, since my graduation was cancelled this year. I think she still could have used her speech/performance to encourage the Class of 2020 to use our knowledge and skills to improve the world and fight the systems of oppression, but I guess I don't know her reasoning and situation.

I don't even know if I'm upset as much as I am angry at the racist cops and corona for ruining 2020 :noparty:

I’m in the same boat boo. I am already upset about my graduation and corona as well but it is what it is.
