During the live Covid-19 briefing on BBC News he just said “Everybody’s life matters” before quickly adding “Black lives matter”.

I'll say this... all lives DO matter. But its not an excuse to dismiss racism. If all lives truly mattered, we would not be seeing the injustices of black and PoC people. We would not be seeing police brutality, or the microagression against people with a different skin colour, and we wouldn't be seeing so many innocent black and PoC wrongly arrested for crimes they didn't commit.

White ignorant people who say "all lives matter" are using that as a cop out for acknowledging racism and is downplaying the views of black and PoC.

This is really a non-story because it's just taken out of context. He didn't say that to shrug off the BLM movement. His wider point was everyone should matter and hence the BLM movement.

he could have just said, "black lives do matter, and racism is an issue that wr need to tackle..." but he didn't
