I’m just so disgusted that it’s hard to believe some things. I know there’s been a lot of people committing violence posing as the opposite side, I’m just not sure how far it goes or how far each side would be willing to go. It’s a deeply passionate time and people will reject morals and inhibitions to achieve the greater good in their mind. I back the protestors all the way. But when you’re in shock at what’s happening, sometimes you just want to believe things aren’t as horrifying as they really are. I’m not sure if I can be faulted for that.

I’ve grown up my whole life with retired policemen in my family, people I know and love, and it’s extremely difficult for me to connect the horrors of police brutality with my perceived innocence of the people I’ve loved throughout my life. When I was young I saw policemen as heroes, I’m a New Yorker and law enforcement in my family ran into the hell of 9/11 to save people’s lives. Being related to the kind of men that do that doesn’t make it a simple task to understand the horrors behind the system they perpetuated. These thought processes are not only my privilege speaking but the way that I was raised. Untraining that sort of upbringing isn’t easy, particularly when you’re surrounded by it for so long.

What I am doing is trying my best to support the protestors and I back their message all the way. If I slip up here and there when it comes to sheer belief at the horrors happening, especially during the most chaotic time for mental illness in modern history, it’s not out of malice or deliberate. It’s  an effort to process what I’ve always been taught vs. what I know to be reality, and when these things contradict each other and align in a time like this, people are going to rationalize stupid things. But if the heart is in the right place and the mistake is owned up to, as well as the individual doing everything in their power not to repeat the mistake, then I believe the mistake doesn’t change anything about the individual’s core values.

This serves as another horror that will increase my hatred for the racist establishments that lead our country even further. That, to me, is the lesson we should all learn from this.

Chic, I have know you for a long time on here — albeit a rather shallow window into people as it's GagaDaily — but I can truly say I have never respected you MORE after reading this.

I acknowledge how personal and painful this is for you. I think just about everybody is experiencing the same kind of internal turmoil that you've described in their own way.  I hear the pain and sincerity in your words, and I admire your willingness to constantly try to grow from it.

Apologies for coming in hot. One of my personal struggles is to meet others with patience and understanding as, like you said, it's going to take a lot of time and work to retrain our prejudice. But it's a worthwhile effort nonetheless.

Here if you ever need support.

What if this is the protesters posing as policemen to pin the destruction on them?

If people wanted revenge trust me it would be dark it wouldn't be this

This is disgusting behaviour, I can't wrap my head around it, seems like you can trust nobody and that's very sad...

Wasn't this confirmed in another thread that cops are doing this to break the already broken glass/shop windows. It's hazardous and extremely dangerous to leave already broken glass like that. Someone could get seriously hurt

I disagree with how cops have been treating the situation and no I am not defending their action as there probably are cops vandalizing but again, I want to reiterate that you can't be believing everything you see. There is always more footage and people can edit things to fit a narrative.
