If people wanted these preserved and in museum they should’ve done it years ago when the statues were a big topic. Now that they’re destroyed it’s tim to start putting more statues of civil rights leaders and important POC in those spots.

Look, I'm vocal about taking down the statues but outright destroying them and forgetting they ever existed could be dangerous.  Tho, I understand the impulse the protesters/rioters had.

 

 

Do you seriously think Holocaust museums are preserving statues of Hitler or Goebbels? Like.....it's not about PC. It's about removing any veneration for people who belong in hell.

the museums are set up to commemorate the victims and that is where they derive their significance. you're making a false equivalence

the confederate statues are merely a reminder of hate and racism and do not represent anything akin to social progress. if the statues were made in honour of civil rights activists, then it would be a different story.

I'm not gonna lie, I have learned a lot the last couple days I never knew before and I'm grateful for that.  But if it means running into bumps like these every now and then, then I guess that's the way you learn.  Thank y'all for showing me the light

You do what you have to do...but remember that the egyptian pyramids (and pretty much every old monument) are also big celebrations of slavery. These things belong in a museum, so people don't forget the wrongs of humanity and don't repeat the same mistakes.

There are tons of Roman and Asian imperial statues out there that remind us of the sovereignity of those before us. And one day, our generations will be long in the past too.

History books are easy to rewrite (*cough*bible*cough*) but monuments aren't. They are the material that's used to fill History books with.

Either way, hopefully this will ultimately be a positive progress for our current society.
