Great opportunity for those monsters who haven't purchased the album on iTunes to go ahead and do that :ohwell:

Well I would understand if they did a shut down for all the injustice in the world . This just feels selective.

i repeat my last message because you don't seem to be getting it, if they're doing sh¡t now don't mean they shouldn't have before, they really should, but did they? no, did they now? yeah, great

this mentality is like when a child says "well now i don't want it anymore" after some reluctance to give in to their wishes...

The same people that are saying all the protests are violent but ignoring the peaceful protest, are probably the same ones who said the media is biased towards Bernie. :oprah:  It's like.. some sort of media bias... yeah that's the word

Same people that said a few bad apples are not reflective of all policemen. Same with the protests.

Music is an escape to a lot of people. Taking that away, even for a day, is not right. Spotify is a huge platform. They can plaster popups and banners cross platform to raise awareness about the BLM movement, and ways they can help by linking them to donation and petition sites. If this rumor is true and extends to not playing music tomorrow, then that's the dumbest and least efficient way Spotify can show support.

Cuz you were acting like a hippie elitist. Not everyone can afford physical copies of albums, not everyone can afford a CD player, a record player, walkman or whatever device out there that is used for solely playing music. Some people only have their phones. Not everyone is in a first world country. You can be passionate about music, aka being a music lover, without having whatever you think people should have to be considered one. What matters is you have access to listen to music.

It's pretentious to think someone isn't a music lover just cuz they rely on streaming services. Stop calling people 'kids' cuz you're the one who's acting like an edgy teenager here.

The fact that people here are fuming because they can't use Spotify for A DAY when there are multiple other options to listen to music is my problem. I'm not saying everyone has to buy CDs or vinyls, i'm just saying everyone has music downloaded, CDs, or other platforms to listen to music just for ONE freaking DAY

pop ate my heart

:saladga: Do they mean worldwide? :saladga: I'm from Argentina and I have NOTHING to do with the MESS that yall's society is going through. And, although I remain grateful for having food in my plate and a roof over my head, music is literally the only thing that's keeping me sane rn (and this, a LOT of people can relate). Why do I have to go through this too?

Don't get me wrong, I feel as much empathy for the US people as I feel for any other country that goes through sh** like that, and I think what's happening hopefully impacts culture and the government in a way it hasn't been done before regarding racism. I also understand most of the entertainment industries that have huge influence in the world, and that people like me consume, are from the US, and it's amazing that they do this. But IN THEIR COUNTRY. It's not fair for them to ignore the situation of literally EVERY other country that, even though not all of them are in the middle of a civil war, are still suffering a lot. THE US IS NOT THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE

What's next? The world without Netflix?

LastNight

If this is true then I appreciate that they’re doing something to show solidarity; I think the idea of going silent for the day and allowing the focus to be elsewhere is a good one and is profound in concept, but it seems a little empty in practice.

Personally I would think promoting content by black creators to help elevate their voices would be more productive. Think of all the podcasts, songs and albums that tackle these issues that could be highlighted and pushed to an audience that might not necessarily listen to them normally.

I guess there is no perfect solution, and if their intention is pure then it’s a good thing. It’s so important for us all to lend our voices and support. Also, there are many other ways to listen to music for those of you complaining: buy it, stream it on YouTube, Apple Music etc. Having no access to Spotify for the day is a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things.

no, because people will get used to it and it won't have meaning anymore

the point is : stop the machines and people will get a tickle in their privilege. "oh how am i supposed to be without music for a day"

is an infinitely smaller version of black people's reality, their disadvantage in society

it's working, i see you all are mad

if you repeat it forever it becomes protocol, people will not be affected, it's like bacteria that starts resisting the antibiotics (no i'm not calling you all germs, i just express myself better with analogies)

but to make it clear they are going to cease working for a day, not close the platform:awkney:
