Acts like this murder as just as much the fault of individual cops as it is the system

Okay.

The system is broken in terms of accountability and protection

True.

But a cop does not have to choose to profile like many other cops do and they have choices in most cases how to behave

The system itself is designed to be racist. Signing up, voluntarily, to be an enforcer of racism is BAD.

The fact that law enforcement has problems does not automatically mean that someone choosing to be a cop is therefore choosing to be a bad person

It is not that law enforcement have problems... It is that law enforcement IS the problem.

How many people work for big Corporations like Nikkie or Walmart or whatever. How much is wrong with their Corporate system where there's so many human rights abuses and exploration overseas? Does that make every employee at Walmart and Nikkie therefore bad as well because there's issues with the company they represent?

Completely different. Someone who works at Walmart is a victim to classist oppression, they are not the perpetrators. They did not sign up to voluntarily violate human rights, the owning/ruling class did.

By your line of reasoning that cops are all guilty to some degree because of choosing to be cops In a broken system, then the vast majority of humans have guilt as well for who they work for

Cops are unique because our criminal "justice" system is, by nature, racist. It, in its entirety, has got to go.

So I think u are going too deep by making that insinuation about cops on an individual level. So I really think the focus needs to be on the system not individually (unless as individuals they also commited a bad act as a cop then that's different)

Yes, let's focus on the system when 40% of cops are domestic abusers. Yes, let's focus on the system when the only good cops that exist are those who watch others commit murder and remain silent.

I understand wanting to keep the focus on the system and I think that is the correct approach, but do not be so disillusioned as to think that most cops are good people... They're not.

You are speaking about cops as if their occupation is some immutable trait. Cops chose to be cops. Cops chose to enforce a racist system. Cops perform racism everyday they put on that badge, by choice.

White people are part of an evil system in which they are the oppressor and we should, therefore, not immediately blame them at the individual level. They did not choose to be white. However, cops are part of an evil system that they voluntarily joined.

Did you actually think I’d count those 40% in the good cop part? Wtf chile... :wtf:

I’m not deluded into thinking most are good people. I think most are good are keeping peace and not killing black people. Good cops =\= good person. I am absolutely not speaking about cops as if they’re an immutable trait, literally no one thinks that and certainly not me. I’m talking about the system as a whole. Why would we talk about anything else if cop actions are the whole issue? Of course you can quit being a cop if you’re too morally pure for that, but realize that only leaves more bad cops to deal with.

Let’s acknowledge cops can also choose to actively not be racist in who they pull over and how they treat suspects. Its clearly not ACAB. It’s some. Some is still enough to justify all the mess.

Oh, yes, generalizing the people who have made a voluntary choice regarding an occupation is just as bad as generalizing people for their skin color, an immutable trait.

You do not aim to create change by signing up to be cop. You aim to create change through reform or revolution.

ACAB

you're a moron for saying that all cops are bad

do you know all cops personally?

do you know all their mentality, moral and what kind of person they are?

i guess not.

I understand that you probably feel hurt to an extent due to the situation.

but don't speak generalized about people you don't know

I do not view acts of racism as forced by the system. Cops can still choose to be racist or not. There's nothing about law enforcement that forced him to choke him to death. He CHOSE be wrekless

And I frankly still don't see the difference in choosing to be a cop in a broken system and working for a Corporation with its own moral issues. In principal to me seems exactly the same. The only difference is one is a Government institution and the other one a private one

The system itself gets rid of good cops, and transform them into a shell of their former selves. I said what I said, I believe cops have several opportunities to realize the true nature of what is waiting for them, but nevertheless insist on doing it.

Yeah, the system is trash and needs an overhaul. Never argued against that and never will. If you think it’s inevitable for every cop to turn into a racist lynch monster, then at least appreciate the ones who actively go in to fight against it, like anti bodies attacking a virus. “ACAB” doesnt does the exact opposite. Making all the good cops leave would only increase the impact of the bad ones.

Also not you saying “I said what I said”. Yeah, you did, and it was trash, so that’s why multiple people are coming for you. Things like that make me question how serious about this people are, sorry. Imagine if a white racist said that after making a stupid statement... do they sound like they wanna get to the truth, or wanna feel good?

I do want to get to the truth, and I said "I said what I said" because I still stand by my beliefs. And not you comparing my opinion, which is justified with what I believe are very sensical arguments, with literal white supremacism.

This is what I was saying too and I agree with u

I get the system is broken. There's more accountability required and even the ways they are trained need fine tuning. Like I don't know the details of how they are trained but I would imagine that's probably part of the issue as well not just the accountability problem

But at the end of the day there's a lot of choices cops have to make as individuals.

Do they make assumptions in their mind for example that a black male is more likely to respond violently than a white? How disproportionately agressively are they back to a suspect? How fast are they to raise voices and get agressive?

These are things that have a certain degree of personal choice involved and chose how to react or act or think. Despite their training they are not complete robots that all react the exact same way. They still have choices to make with their free will

So that's why I also disagree that all cops must be bad because the system is or that racism problems in the system somehow means that cops have to act racist. They don't have to. They can choose not to

Okay but like the most respect and love possible, ACAB aint it. It makes good cops wanna leave bc of guilt and that’s extremely distressing and freaks me the **** out.

Also I can analogize things without saying they’re equally as bad. I’m not saying that. There is a point I’m tryna to get across and it’s not that.

This has to stop. So many police officers are  power hungry entitled assholes. At my city's march, which was peaceful, they fired pepper spray and rubber bullets at the crowds.

There was no riot, not outrage but they fired/sprayed KIDS. One woman even said they fired on her baby in a stroller.  The police force needs to be cancelled altogether.  These people are using protestors as target practice

Don't analogize like that then, because it comes off with a centrist "all sides are equally as bad or as good" kind of vibe. I said why I think there are no good cops. I said that the system itself is against their mere existence. That's why I uphold ACAB, because I see the cops as members and willing participants of a racist institution that has time and time again showed its true colors. Do you want to be cop and do the right thing? Then don't be a cop. There are other ways to accomplish similar things and fight for the security of the people. If you're a good person, you can't be a cop. You can think about being a cop, yes, you can even begin training to be a cop, yes, but if then, when you are presented with the true facts and characteristics of the cop, the cop who stands by the hate and bigotry that come with the job, the cop who is the cop all cops should aspire to be, since it is modeled after the upside down "values" of the system that makes the cop exist in the first place, you decide to keep going, and accept all of that and become a cop, looking up to that image of the cop, then you become a cop. There is no way the people who were good when beginning their training remain as good when officially becoming cops. Because that's not a part of the training. Integrity and correct values are not part of it, and that's the problem. A supremacist system that shows itself over and over again cannot have members who are not supremacist.

1. It's not true cops in other countries are "way better" and "good". The police institution is a global one, and as such it has ramifications all across the world.

2. You said that "Many people choose their jobs and realize how corrupt and racist it is after spending their whole life on it and its too late to leave and destroy your life." While this may be true, cops are exposed to the nature of the job since day 1. Do you think they don't know the intentions of the ones who surround them since early on? If you don't, then you are misinformed. Like I said, they're trained. They are part of police academies and have to graduate before entering the forces. That's plenty of time to know what kind of people will surround them. Still, they chose to go on. There are no good cops.

Where are you from? Your view can be completely this way because of the situation in your country, so I also apologize if I come over too 'grey', because I'm not from the US.
But it goes the same way for you, you don't know the situation in every other country. We're talking about something here that by definition (the notion of 'police') is not something bad and/so you can't know the situation in all the countries. I doubt you have insight in the training of policemen in every country.

Racism is a HUGE problem in the US, as it is worldwide. That being said, the 'levels' are not the same everywhere and eg. I doubt that, even though there's racism in my country and consequently also racist cops, eg. in my country cops are trained as is to be racist.

----

With maybe it being too different of a situation, because hating Catalans is not as rooted in Spanish police system as racism is in the US police system, I still want to say this:
In October last year, when there were so many riots and so many police brutality of the national police against Catalan people, who just peacefully voted, I was so enraged. I have felt sick and so frustrated because of the whole situation and have been so enraged towards the police. Nevertheless, this has never made me say or think that all, every single individual of the Spanish national police were bad.

watch the video. say his name. feel this feeling.

THAT feeling you get from watching this video is how people of color feel EVERY SINGLE DAY when a police car drives past them on the street.

That feeling that for no reason at all, you could be the next George Floyd. For no reason at all — other than the color of your skin— you could be detained, beaten, or murdered.

THAT feeling is the status quo in America. We can NOT go back to normal! "Normal" is what got us here in the first place.

And if watching a video like this is "shocking" to you, you have not been paying attention. Your privilege protects you from having these kinds of interactions.

Learn how to be an ally. Do you part not only to be not racist, but to ERADICATE racism and white supremacy.

And if you are more upset about the protesters, "th*gs", or "rioters" than you are about the racism that got us here in the first place, YOU are part of the problem.

This this this :applause:
