I think there's 3 main types of cops which I posted in another thread but it was like page 6 so maybe almost no one saw so I'll repost my take.

 

#1 cops that genuinely care about their job and helping the community and keeping everyone safe. And while I've dealt with sh*tty cops there have also been some understanding and helpful ones that were critical in helping me when I had severe mental health attacks. Some genuinely wanna do good

 

#2 these are the type that are neither great nor evil. They are just doing it as a job. They may not go out of their way to do great to society but aren't necessarily looking to be assh*les either. They just want their paycheck

 

#3 these are problem ones. Cops that are attracted to law enforcement cuz they like to flex their muscles and be pricks. These are the jerks that get a thrill out of being extra and being brutal. If they have a racial bias for example like the ones against black people even worse.

The police in this country are corrupt and cynical. Imagine being that insecure and that close-minded to think that people aren't protesting for a reason. People are protesting because of your unjust, racist, and oppression actions. Running over crowds of people isn't solving the problem.

THAT feeling you get from watching this video is how people of color feel EVERY SINGLE DAY when a police car drives past them on the street. 

That feeling that for no reason at all, you could be the next George Floyd. For no reason at all — other than the color of your skin— you could be detained, beaten, or murdered. 

THAT feeling is the status quo in America. We can NOT go back to normal! "Normal" is what got us here in the first place.

And if watching a video like this is "shocking" to you, you have not been paying attention. Your privilege protects you from having these kinds of interactions. 

Learn how to be an ally. Do you part not only to be not racist, but to ERADICATE racism and white supremacy. 

And if you are more upset about the protesters, "th*gs", or "rioters" than you are about the racism that got us here in the first place, YOU are part of the problem.

That phrase is always used to justify the existence of cops in their current status and the maintenance of the system that made white supremacism so prevalent in that community in the first place. Also, where are those good cops everyone's talking about?

We are talking about a systematic, oppressive organization that has put down the Black community for decades. 

Yes, technically there are good cops out there, but that does not outweigh the fact that the whole system is corrupt and unjust. 

I'm sure there are KKK members out there who have donated to children's hospitals. Does that all of a sudden make the KKK good now?

I never said the police as an entity as a whole don't have problems because clearly they do

 

But when people use the phrase that there are good cops they are not talking about the system they are talking about the individuals so when the users was mocking those words that's why I called it out

 

One issue does not automatically make the other not true. Again were back to black and white thinking

I beg you to not waste this space here by not being an ally to the people of color in the united states that are suffering and have been enduring white supremacy for all their lives. 

I beg you not to waste your privilege by not speaking out about the ROOT of what we are seeing in the US — RACISM. 

Please, please try to do better. 

editing in to add that we cannot let another conversation be dragged off topic. we have to stay laser focused on the issue here — white supremacy — and doing what we can to expose and eradicate it.

That's not what I was doing. I just don't think it's helpful to exagerate the truth by implying ALL cops are bad

 

That is not going to help the tension between cops and the population

 

U don't have to turn this into me pointing out a point that I'm not allied with the black community. I've spoken extensively against cops just the same including the thread I made on the cops that pushed the black woman off the balcony

 

Stop implying I don't care just because I don't think it's fair to lump every single cop in the same category

We've gone to "black and white thinking" because that is precisely, and unfortunately, the society we live in. Figuratively and literally.

Our one and only problem should be about fixing and changing our police force and our government. I quite frankly think that all these conversations about "Oh, the protestors could've done things this way," or "Oh, stop calling all cops bad, that isn't right," etc, are people just diverting the attention away from the problem.

The problem isn't the rhetoric "All cops are bad," the problem is that cops are killing Black people and POC. The problem is that white privilege, and those who are privleged in general (regardless of their skin tone), are not taking necessary measurements to fight off racism. We need to protest, we need to vote, we need to donate, we need to sign petitions, we need to spread the word on social media, we need to change people's way of thinking.

We cannot divert the situation away from what the problem is.
