It's Not That Black And White

So you mean we should pacifically walk against racism? Sounds like a 'been there done that' situation, it didn't work. It only made white supremacists organize themselves and repost violently.

At some point you're gonna get attacked by those people, even if you choose peace.

I didn't ask for a free ride, I only asked you to show me a real good time.

Here in Catalonia we have been fighting for our rights for decades. We have suffered racism from the Spanish since always, 10 years ago the peaceful protests began, and everything was fine, until the violence began, because of that, now we have a far-right political force in the government. The first time the violence started, they took away our autonomy, and put politicians, artists and people in jail, the second time, the police were shooting and hitting people for weeks.

I live about an hour south of Minneapolis. A few nights ago a group of probably 90% little white boys broke into a target and looted a sprint store. Now we have an 8pm curfew. I haven’t seen anyone argue that what happened was right or that the police aren’t out of control, but the riots have became something ELSE now, at least for a portion of the people. These little white clowns wanted to steal iPhones and TVs. And they looked like fools doing it.

A couple nights ago they started a HOME on fire. I think it stopped at that because of the military presence we now have. But people who couldn’t be more innocent are having their lives ruined, including black business owners. They basically burned the gay neighborhood in Minneapolis to the ground and it’s sad.

If you’re goin to loot and burn stuff, make a plan and target specifically who you’re protesting! Burn down all the government buildings! I’m not condoning that, I’m just saying if you honestly feel like looting is justified then why is it all either random buildings, or buildings that sell stuff you like? I haven’t seen any Louis Vuitton bags at the George memorial. Those were for you.

it's not just a choice between being oppressed or fighting back violently.

You don't understand that the people with power in this country have ensured that it is absolutely a choice between those two things.

:wtf:these comments. Please take your privilege into account before you come telling black people what to do. ‘Violence is never the answer’  save me the damn bull ****, God how I wish everything could be solved with words and hugs and love and rainbows. Are y’all really that ignorant?

You are part of the problem. Someone asks for clarification in the nicest way possible and you still feel the need to be condescending. And then we wonder why people are reluctant to join our side. God humanity is doomed

I'm against violence myself but in dire situations like this, there really is no other way to express anger and demand rights.

They aren't just setting buildings in fire :awkney:  you gotta stop picking isolated incidents that you find terrible and look at the bigger picture.

Black people are getting arrested, beaten, killed by police officers IN THE STREETS. The pictures you posted of the Stonewall riots are happening today in 2020 on a much larger and brutal scale.

You think a building being on fire is terrible? What about the countless black people who have lost their lives tragically? What about the children, or young adults, who had their whole future ahead of them taken away JUST BECAUSE OF THEIR SKIN TONE? Exactly. But keep moaning about a building being on fire

Darling, the point of those pictures is to show you how stark the differnce is between the two riots.

It is incredibly uneducated for you to compare the Stone Wall Riots to the George Floyd riots.

They are vastly different.

For one, the Stone Wall Riots waanot organized and was more or less a randomized event.

The George Floyd Riots have been proven to be perpetuated and staged:

https://www.lawenforcementtoday.com/report-piles-of-bricks-are-being-staged-in-cities-around-the-country-indicating-riots-are-planned/

Unfortunately the bigger picture you are taking about is literally deeper than the skin color at this point. This has evolved far beyond a race issue, and if you follow current affairs everyday you would be able to understand.

In reality, many black businesses are suffering due to this rioting lunacy:

So in reality, when you support these violent acts, you essentially go against the point you were trying to make anyway - these riots not only potentially end black lives through violent actions, but they also have and will destroy black businesses, small business owners who provide not only incomes for their families, but also employ and create jobs for black people. Think about these black people who spent years working on their business, this is their livelihood, this is how they afford to eat and afford to have clothes and afford to have a shelter. By destroying this, their lives are destroyed.

It is INCREDIBLY ignorant to compare the situation at hand as a "building on fire" vs "abuse on black people for their skin tone". It is actually incredibly uneducated to imply this, as this whole situation is just NOT that one dimensional.

It is irresponsible to warrant and justify these violent acts that DESTROY families (yes black families) and their ability to survive.

Find a better way.

Politics and social issues that involve whether you support someone’s right to be a human being not in fear of death every day, whether they’re gonna lose their job for putting one word out of place or if they have to think about what to do to not seem too much like themselves in fear that it will hold them back.

Racism is black in white, if you don’t understand why they’re rioting then you didn’t learn enough about our queer history, or paid attention to the fact that if white people didn’t help and stand in the way there’s be bullets in people’s bodies already.

If you patronise and don’t understand and don’t want to.

youre a racist. period.

There are many ways to help yes, but saying violence doesn't work isn't true or realistic.

We live in the real world, not an utopia. The only way people are heard, is through violent demonstrations and sadly it's the nature of our species. Yes, it's cute and nice to think we can stop everything that is bad in our world by peaceful protests and demonstrations, but since humanity has existed, it hasn't even worked once.

As MLK said: "Riots are the language of the unheard".  Women got their rights this way (and still continue to fight). LGBT+ community got rights this way (and we still continue to fight). Slavery was ended this way. Colonialism ended this way. Monarchy ended this way in France (and bad Republics too...)

Spoiler

The government and alt-right will do ANYTHING to make this movement look bad. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the fires and loots were either started by the police or white people.

If you're mad at your country, you're allowed to destroy monuments and government facilites, since they don't serve their original function anymore.

I'm of the opposite view.

America is an ARMED country. If you're not using those arms in self defense now then when do you plan on doing it?

You cannot expect to achieve change when you are treated like a pest problem that needs to be eradicated.

Shot at? Shoot back. See who is Billy big balls then.

This should be a stalemate when it comes to attacking civilians. The police need to know that if they attack they might not win.

The time is now. Dont let this fizzle out again like it has many many times before.

This is what I don't understand. The 2nd amendment is there for this exact same reason.

Find a better way to stop cops or racists from killing minorities. No excuses. We'll keep hammering this message until everyone gets it. No distracting from the real issue.

And i hope people who support this violence gets their house trampled, and their workplaces torched. Maybe it will humble them when they understand how it feels.
