I will not let this stand. I'M A FILIPINO- famously oppressed for CENTURIES by different nations for HUNDREDS OF YEARS. Then when Filipinos took back the government, it became wrought with corruption especially during our dark days under the Marcos dictatorship.

Jesus, you don't even know me and you dare to call me PRIVILEGED? Who the fck are you?

STILL, we were able to bring down a fcking dictatorship that indiscriminately killed thousands without riots and violence. What?? That's possible??? PEOPLE WERE WILLING TO DIE PEACEFULLY TO ACHIEVE PEACE HERE.

And you have the GALL to call me ignorant. I live because of the sacrifice of my people, their bravery. They prayed in front of tanks and soldiers with fully loaded guns (with ACTUAL bullets). And you know what? IT WORKED. NO ONE DIED.

So sit the fck down and think about your narrow views. You might be too blind or too stubborn to see other ways of achieving change, but I will not roll over to let your ignorance pass if it means saving the lives of more innocents that will die when things actually escalate to war.

Not thinking about the eventual results of the current situation IS ignorance.

Sorry but what does this have to do with the current situation in the US? It kinda sounds that you think that your experience of oppression is somehow analogous to that of Black folk in America. It is not. I would suggest you try really educating yourself on this particular situation (if you need sources/a reading list, message me), rather than trying to extrapolate your experiences.

I'm of the opposite view.

America is an ARMED country. If you're not using those arms in self defense now then when do you plan on doing it?

You cannot expect to achieve change when you are treated like a pest problem that needs to be eradicated.

Shot at? Shoot back. See who is Billy big balls then.

This should be a stalemate when it comes to attacking civilians. The police need to know that if they attack they might not win.

The time is now. Dont let this fizzle out again like it has many many times before.

THOSE THINGS GET STUFF DONE.

Setting the city on fire doesn’t. Hurting small businesses doesn’t. It’s regressive, not progressive.

are you really going to sit here and say that black people should adhere to the status quo? that they need to operate within the bounds of the legal system?

bruh, THEY HAVE BEEN EVER SINCE THEY GOT THE RIGHT TO VOTE. that system is precisely what has generate the unrest we're seeing.

those things only affect chance and "GET STUFF DONE" when WHITE people show up to do it! when WHITE PEOPLE decide to be anti-racist and not just complacent or silent. that is the problem.

black people have to fight for their basic rights every single day. they can't even walk or jog in white neighborhoods without being killed. and you want them to go door-to-door begging white people to treat them like humans and vote. so beyond tone deaf.

I'm sorry, I don't agree. Sometimes violence is the only answer. Peaceful protest have been tried, time and again, and where are the results?

If people didn't want their sh!t looted and burned down, they shouldn't have 'looted' Africans out of Africa and enslaved them, 'looted' the entire continent of NA from Indigenous people, and then proceeded to treat those people like literal garbage for 400 years. Actions have consequences, and rage that is suppressed will eventually explode

I have 2 issues with this

#1 as wrong as what the colonists did to aboriginals and first Nations was, that cannot be changed now. And the issues that STILL go on with aboriginals is kind of a seperate issue to these protests which are more specifically about police brutality and especially profiling based on race

#2 I don't get why ur saying if they don't want their stuff looted they shouldn't have looted African Americans and slaved them. I see no evidence whatsoever that shop owners that care about equality rights were spared in these attacks. In fact some of the shop owners could of been black themselves

It sounds very extra to blame those shop owners like they brought it on to themselves...

If the attacks were only specifically targeted at racist shop owners or people known to support political ideologies that hold back reforms you might have a point. But there hasn't been any evidence that the shops attacked were carefully selected that way

Sit the fck down cus I’m not about you read ur 10 paragraph rant. I wasn’t even referring to you with privilege,Only TO WHO EVER IT APPLIES TO. Actually sit the fck down I’m reading some of ur paragraph-> you took all i said and applied it to urself. That’s ur own problem. Don’t fcking mention me dragging me when I was referring to some COMMENTS. Sit the **** down. Don’t quote me again- you literally made it seem like I think Filipinos are privileged, they aren’t. White people are.

It's about protesting not burning down the country. But you need to grapple with their reality, being vilified by police everyday, when do people snap if you keep pushing them?

Eric Garner was choked to death almost 6 years ago and nothings changed. That police officer wasn't even charged.

I'm really curious how some of the riots fans will act if this was happening close to you and you and your family will be in danger because of this.

Protest, but dont forget to vote. That's kinda the only way things can change.

It's not that black and white. There are other ways.

What other ways do you recommend that americans haven't done in the 50s/60s/70s etc?

Kindness gets us nowhere, sorry. I'm not glorifying violence but when do systems ever listen when we ask politely? I don't know. Tbh, it'd a nice change but there comes a point when you've got to think about how police are literally getting off with murdering and mowing down crowds of people, and you've gotta think... is peaceful protesting even enough? Because they ain't ****ing listening and never have done. Oppressors never listen to peaceful protests. If looting is a sacrifice we have to make to make ourselves heard, so be it. "When the looting starts, the shooting starts" - MAN! That remark right there is why America is SO ****ED.

I wholeheartedly agree! I thought being left meant no violence at least to me, I am pacifist and do not believe in violence to get a point across, it causes more problems. Looting will get you nowhere.

Peaceful protests rarely work, especially in America. Please look at history. Gaga has made a beautiful gesture but quite frankly, she should be out there, with Ariana, protesting, as the true activist she is.

I can kind of answer. Fires were started in residential buildings (I think they had a storefront underneath) 4 blocks away from where I live last night and damage to businesses was done as close as a block away, but I am still donating to various grassroots movements/bail funds. Regarding violence, I'm white and I don't really feel it is my place to have an opinion how the black community is responding to this, but I can understand why it is happening. They feel helpless in a way that I will never know and it's not like they haven't been trying for generations. Really it is a privilege for me to even be sitting here contemplating the morality of it.

The only thing I will call out is all the white people I saw on livestreams looting H&M and Athleta (and instigating other violence/arson) under the guise of "ally-ship" when in reality the blame is only going to be put back on the black community.

Kindness gets us nowhere? Impatience, lack of plannings and uncontrolled temper get you nowhere.

Black people are recognized and respected for their breakthroughs, achievements and advocates in life. And that’s not down to black people only but to people of every races. That’s when they change the whole country on a systematic level by showing their exellency.

Make yourself vital to the whole system first then your voice will be heard and respected. Barack Obama did not become a president by throwing a tantrum and burning down streets and business in protests.

Many people have said it before me, but while I don’t agree going to extremes to the point when people are actually getting killed in these riots, peaceful protesting is also not going anywhere.

You would have to be very naive if you think peaceful protests are going to solve anything. Sometimes, a little more force and aggression are needed to make your voice be heard. And it’s clear the American people are not being heard, bc the murder of George Floyd is not an isolated event, it is something that has happened countless times before. So aggression is the way they’ll get their leaders to listen to them. Do you think big problems like this can be solved with a civil conversation and some banners? In an ideal world it would, but we don’t live in an ideal world.

Every level of state and local government in Minneapolis is under democratic control and yet its still violently systemicly racist. The Black Lives Matter movement was born from injustices committed during the Obama administration. Voting will not and was never going to solve this.

Also, vote for who? The dem nominee is a life long racist who spent his entire career demonizing black people while writing, passing, and passionately advocating for the EXACT POLICIES BEING PROTESTED. Why the f*ck should any of us expect him to suddenly be willing to take on the monumental task of undoing centuries old racist institutions he himself was more than happy to make the upkeep of his life’s work?
