Why is Chromatica sad?

I don’t see them as sad lyrics, I see them as liberating, healing lyrics from dark moments. You don’t need to be in a dark place to talk about how you felt.

I mean, I could write you about how shitty 7 years ago was to me and it wouldn’t mean I am sad now.

It's a callout album, and it's about us.

Not everything is about us :huntyga:

People forget that Lady Gaga is a highly profitable brand after all. She has obviously been conflicted with this for a long time (ARTPOP).

I'm not saying that was her, but many young artists are willing to be paid top $$$ to be told what they like, how they should present themselves, what causes they should focus on etc. Let's not kid ourselves about the music industry. So yeah, I think she has high emotional intelligence which makes it hard to compartmentalise these downsides of fame and commercialism. Although she also partnered with Amazon for Haus Labs... mh

I don’t think the album has healed her in the sense of neutralizing her pain. I feel it’s more about acknowledging it, accepting it as part of life, and nevertheless being able to look up forward and hope for a better future.

I mean Chromatica is the most commercial Gaga has been in a while tbh and i don't really like that :huntyga: i think ARTPOP was way more genuine cause she did what she wanted to do and collabed even with artists no one cared about and she still managed to reveal a lot about herself (rape, drugs, the pain she had after her surgery etc...)

That’s why I love this album so much!

If this album had to be this sad, i honestly would've preferred it to be an album full of ballads like INLA and TIHTY. If i have to be sad, then i actually wanna cry. Some songs on this album unfortunately only make me uncomfortable cause i'm bopping to it and then all of a sudden Fun Tonight, SFA or Plastic Doll come on and ruin everything. I can't listen to it from start to finish

She's taking us on her journey through her personal pain and mental health.

From her recent interviews, she's not claiming that she is healed fully now but she sounds like she's come to a point of acceptance, and this is what the journey through Chromatica is all about.

I feel like she's putting this out there to share this journey through music - to inspire others that, however bad their current state is, they themselves are on a journey, 'its ok not to be ok' .. and there is light at the end for them also  .........

Edit: That sense of 'acceptance' is almost reflected in the happy-sad vibe this album gives us.... Yes she will always feel some pain and some sadness, but the inspiration part is to 'dance through this pain' to fight it. Rain on me. :gaycat:

Idk, I love melancholic dancing precisely because of the contrast. It’s a mixed feeling that pleases me very much. But I see your point.

Yes I think that the message behind those songs is that you can get over anything and dance and/or dance while you getting over it.

and I understand that you prefer sad ballads over sad bops, but I think it’s better to feel sadness and dance than be sad and cry, you feel me?

And as Gaga said this album will help people 'dance through all their pain'.
So while that’s really doing the job for me...
