I wish I waited

I listened to Stupid Love & Rain On Me when they were released as singles.

by the time the full album dropped, I was super familiar with these songs, of course.  So when I listened to Chromatica from start to finish, I was underwhelmed when Stupid Love & Rain On Me came on and felt like they were not apart of the album.  The excitement of hearing these two songs was gone.  I know I lived the excitement when they were dropped as singles, but now I felt like they didn't live in the same world that all the other songs lived on.  I think it's some kind of bias, knowing that they were chosen to be singles, that I immediately put them in the separate room of "commercial" and then the rest of the album lives in a different room.  I don't know how to explain it.  But this always happens for me. singles ruin albums as a whole for me- I look at the singles as only singles rather than a part of a larger collection of songs, and get sick of them.  I'll skip them when listening to the album because I'm bored of them.  and don't get me wrong- I didn't over play Stupid Love or Rain On Me when they came out!  ugh idk how to really explain what im feeling.

I just think it would be so cool to be handed an album- knowing close to NOTHING about it, and hearing every single song together for the first time.  then I can unbiasedly look back at the album and decide which songs are my favorite and not exclude the singles because theyre "singles" and I already heard them before.  you get me?? lol

I also understand that these songs were released before the album, therefore they were intended to be heard and listened to as stand out tracks from the album, before we heard the rest of the album.  but I want to test my patience and self control next time one of my favs drops an album and just listen to everything at once together for the first time

that being said, Alice, 911, and Replay are my FAVS! and I do really love Rain On Me- I just wish I had SAVED it for the first album listen so I could've been BLOWNN AWAYUYYYYYYYYYYYY

I totally understand what you're saying.
The best thing I can say, that after enough time (a few months or a year), you can judge them differently as part of the album as a whole, since you'll listen to them less.

I have to agree here. Stupid Love is good y'all, it's better than many songs on the track, it's being hated because we had it for a while.

ROM is still in the top 3 tracks of Chromatica for me

I didn't ask for a free ride, I only asked you to show me a real good time.

I skipped SL during my first listen, which felt a little shady but I overplayed it so much recently to hype Chromatica.

I'm sure you'll be able to experience it in full over your next few listens or down the line when it's been out for a while. Just give the process some time, I'm sure you wouldn't of wanted to have missed all the excitement either.

Totally agree! As much as I love SL and ROM, and I haven't even overplayed them that much, they feel separate to the rest because they are so familiar.

Maybe next time I'll test my willpower and wait to listen to the whole album. I was thirsty as heck when SL leaked, I couldn't help myself.

also we had nothing else to compare it to when it dropped, other than her past discography- so everyone just wanted to bash it

My biggest problem is they chose SL as the lead single. I listen to the song and every time I’m like “Why was this the lead???”

I do have that feeling in first few listen.

But after more than 10 replays, im playing the album from start to end without shuffling and skipping.

SL and ROM feel part of the album now.

Exactly, and tbh being on GGD didn't help :messga: when it came out as the lead people in here were mad and the GP actually liked it :air:

REALITY

I can completely understand where you're coming from. SL has an interesting story, cause we've technically had the song since January. When she announced and released the song, it had been online in full for over a month. At that point, people got tired of it because they overplayed it (myself included).

And shortly after she promoted it a little bit, she had to delay the album, which left us in a Chromatica drought for like a month or two before she announced that the album was coming on May 29.

I think Stupid Love is a good song. I still bop to it. I'm bopping to it right now

I think the reason why so many people dislike the song is because we're already so used to it. I don't think that there is anything inherently different about SL that makes it worse than any other song on the album.

I've said this before, but I believe that SL gets a lot of slander that it doesn't deserve. The truth is, if any song leaked a month before its release, and if we were left in a drought with that one song alone, any song would be "bland," or "boring," or "feel out of place" with the album. If what happened to SL happened to Alice, or 911, or Enigma, or Replay, or Sine From Above, or ROM, or Fun Tonight, etc, etc, etc, we'd all be saying that that song was "underwhelming" compared to the rest of the album.

I feel the same way. I love both singles a lot but I find myself skipping them. I think part of the problem is their position in the track list. If they weren’t  so early and back to back, I would enjoy them more.
