Shut downs were utilized to ensure hospitals and supplies could meet capacity. Slowing the spread temporarily was necessary for the medical field to be ready. There actually are several instances where shut downs have worked. No two shut downs are the same though, in the United States and UK and several other countries people still were able to go out to work, go to big box stores, exercise outdoors, et cetera. You're of course going to still have transmission when you have a "shut down" with an asterik behind it.

Yea. The studies show that maybe for some countries this was necessary. 

However not for a long period of time and not on this scale.

I'll give it to the point that different places will require different strategies, some more severe and drastic than others. Of course it's not one size fits all.

But beyond this it's problematic and you can hardly just say it's "science". Research needs to be done into who or what this research benefitted, and determine who or what funded this research.

It's always important to follow the money and I'm curious how that's playing out with this because there's lots of industry and businesses out there losing money who would benefit from an article and study like this.

The point is with this claim is that not every scientist is expert in that area of health, viruses and pandemic so the fact that they backed her up is pretty much invalid, a mathematician back up is pretty much useless to that opinion for example.

So who we should believe more? Politicians, some that doubled their approval ratings just because they imposed a lockdown? The media, who benefits directly from the rating increases? "The experts" who are paid to be on tv or in x position in government only if this virus is a priority? The mathematicians who were wrong with the first models? 

People always find excuses for this study or that person who say that the lockdowns were wrong and yet they forget to do the same with the people and even the more limited studies that approved the lockdown. Their credibility isnt in any way higher than the credibility of the people and studies mentioned in this article. Some of them have actually be proven wrong already multiple times.

Honestly even scientists of the same field sometimes disagree with eachother

 

I find ppl sometimes hold scientists on too high a pedestal. You'd think scientists know everything and can say or do no wrong and if anything science is one of the things constantly being fine tuned and updated because there's so much we as humans are still learning

 

So I don't always take what a scientist says as a hard fact

 

Take economists for example. They are experts on markets and the fundamentals of economy in ways the average person does not understand and they often can't agree with eachother either both in philosophy and in forecasts and get sh*t wrong all the time

 

People have no issue not taking what experts in economy say at face value but when it's scientists for some reason suddenly people are convinced of every word

The problem is not the lockdowns, but how the lockdowns were handled, the governments were not ready for that, the economy was not ready for that, because nobody made an emergency plan, nobody cared to do it, to save the money, the food etc, I mean, we don't even have emergency plans for earthquakes, so to a pandemic?

At the end, most of us remained healthy and didn't get the virus, while now the 2nd phase is starting to happen in many countries that opened up the lockdowns.. also most of the people are pretty irresponsible and the moment the lockdowns was over, they went to the bars, the beaches, malls, etc, without masks or anything.

Let me tell u when ur the new guy at a company it's exhausting cuz everyone tells u something different. One guy tells u to do something one way the next guy tells u to do it differently cuz that's not efficient
