A second wave of the coronavirus outbreak in the United States “could happen” but is “not inevitable,” White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said Wednesday.

The U.S. can prevent another wave of Covid-19 as long as states reopen “correctly,” Fauci said Wednesday morning in an interview on CNN. “Don’t start leapfrogging over the recommendations of some of the guidelines because that’s really tempting fate and asking for trouble.”

They didn't ever get over their first wave because they didn't abide by any of the rules and their president is a wingnut. They will coast into their second wave and nobody will even notice.

I'm starting to get really angry about this whole Covid-19 situation.
The way the government is handling everything (on both sides of the Atlantic) seems corrupt. I'v already lost my grandmother to the virus a few weeks ago, and everything feels very real and imminent to me now. To make matters worse, here in the U.K...  I'm surrounded by people who seem to be more concerned about missing out on good weather rather than the health of an entire planet. I can already see a second wave of cases spiking, especially with all the mixed signals the general public are been given about social distancing and safety precautions. I'm trying really hard to be logical about all of this, but I find myself getting more anxious everyday. It's not been easy on my mental health.

This. We don't need a second wave because we're still on the first wave. I wanted to go on a rant about the unmasked people in the grocery store this morning, including cashiers who didn't have their masks coverage their noses & employees definitely not social distancing, but instead, thanks to my allergies, I just sneezed (through my mask), and that made the people scatter. I was so close to shouting to the few unmasked people (to be fair, I saw maybe 5 people without masks in total, but that was 5 too many) that they're ignorant and selfish, but I didn't because it's 'Murica, and I didn't want to be shot.

I'm going to offer myself as a mail-order bride to a New Zealander or Taiwanese national. I'll marry either gender for residency.

I'm really sorry you lost your grandmother. Sending you a socially distant hug.  I'm in the US but am furious at our government and the idiots who think this is all a conspiracy. I'm fed up with idiocy and selfishness. I'm sorry that the UK is in a similar boat.

There is so much conflicting and contradictory information about the whole thing, it's hard to know what to think and who to trust. But at the same time, this is an unprecedented crisis, we're basically building the plane as we're flying it. We were just not prepared and equipped to face this kind of pandemic. Even scientists, epidemiologists and experts everywhere are baffled and can't give definitive answers. So it's hard to rely on the government for truth and certainty. At this point it's like all we can do is continue to take precautions and hope for the best.

There’s not going to be a 2nd wave because the 1st one never dwindled down due to most people being completely irresponsible. Governments weren’t prepared for this mess and all the conflicting opinions and ideas make it worse. Everyone needs to take precaution into their own hands and just be very careful. Given the back and forth nature of this administration, it’s becoming hard to trust anything these days.

Honestly unless other Countries are prepared to do a lockdown as severe as China did which I don't see flying in most of the world...

A lot of the responsibility lies on the public as well and basic common sense precautions to stop the spread. The Government can't control whether people are responsible or not when police isn't whatching

People like to blame the Government for everything but they don't have a magic wand to just suddenly make everything ok and for some people no amount of effort from their Government seems enough as if any officials could of been prepared for something like this

I'm generalizing btw. Obviously some Countries have done a better job than others. I'm fully aware many Countries didn't take it seriously at all for too long (or still don't)

Agreed. I especially blame irresponsibility from people especially all those party-goers that flooded the beaches and pools this past weekend. My blame on the government is that they spent more time downplaying the severity and now people act as if COVID-19 is over. Everyone practically gave up.
