People saying Rain On Me doesn’t feel short :billie: It’s evanescent af, you can listen to it many times, and yet you still feel like you have to leave it on repeat because it feels like you keep missing something.

wow nice use of evanescent. I’ve never even seen it used.

The same fandom that PRAISED Gaga for making 4+ minutes songs and that LOVED the extended version in Alejandro's music video is now fine with 2:50 songs and calls 4+ minute songs boring and repetitive:saladga:

It's kind of amusing watching them cherrypick and then diss Gaga's beloved older songs just because they're longer than the average song on Chromatica - like, they'd rather betray their own appreciation for Gaga's past work just to prove a very fleeting point about track length now. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I think you are missing the point.

You are equating songs being short as therefore having no artistry. So if Gaga went and cut the fat off the last minute and a half of poker face, therefore the entire first 2:30 seconds is devoid of artistry?

No way.

You kinda missed the point here too though. Poker Face is clearly not on the same level as Edge of Glory, The Queen, etc. artistically so of course it would help prove your point of trimming excess because those parts aren’t valuable to the song since the context is already there & not what’s being cut. The Queen has no “filler” parts so to speak, the instrumental, lyrics, vocal harmonies all help to construct the artistic vision. Look at Sine from Above & how it’s still 4 minutes long, I guarantee it’s because the song is comparable to Edge of Glory, The Queen, Speechless, etc. in regards to artistic exploration & impactful lyrics/melodies, not just a repeated phrase 50 times over to fill otherwise empty space. Either way you do have a point & I’m sure it applies to a few songs on Chromatica but @Cookie Tookie has a point too.

Truthfully, Born This Way’s weakness is in its length, when the songs/albums are tight and cohesive things are always better critically AND from the consumption perspective, especially if Chromatica has a flowing dance/house Confessions on a Dancefloor kind of production

I don't know if you listened to the leak, but the repetition of the chorus at the end of the song felt like eating with a full stomach.

I did listen to the leak, and in the whatsapp group I'm in there were a bunch of people for whom that was their favorite part of the song.

A little dessert after dinner never hurt anyone, after all.

If Gaga releases a 5 minute long song, that’s because she as the artist feels it’s the perfect length

If Gaga releases a 2 minute long song, that’s because she as the artist feels it’s the perfect length

If you trust her artistry enough, you won’t care about the lengths or judge them before listening to them.

So you mean Wannabe by Spicegirls, Waterloo by ABBA, Respect by Aretha Franklin, Old Town Road, 7 Rings—all of these songs are also a waste? 😓

Are they 2:37? Such a waste, if you make a great song as those you can make more arrebgments and play with it, so can be “not that short”

They’re iconic songs that are insanely successful so it doesn’t matter :huntyga:

Ultimately the quality of the songs is not determined by their running times but I do understand those concerned songs might have the the time to “breathe” and develop like in some prior albums...

However, whenever I think about Sour Candy being 2:37 and possibly “too short” I remember a few months ago we didn’t have any Gaga Blackpink collaboration confirmed whatsoever and just last year we didn’t know if Gaga would ever make a true dance pop album again so honestly I’m just grateful we get brand new music and in an exciting pop era that truly feels like her own
