Artists like Eminem, Gaga, Katy, Timberlake can barely crack 70 whereas Selena Gomez who has never been nominated for any Grammys get Adele-level scores. I also think they're extremely lenient towards new acts like Dua Lipa, Cardi B when they were debuting. They don't judge albums, they judge artists in relation to their previous record. Yeah it’s somehow unfair but a bit flattering. It’s the expectations. If Gaga or Katy Perry was the one who puts out Future Nostalgia (which is a great album deserving of the score) I’m pretty sure most of the reviews would view it as mediocre or worse a regression. I know usually it lifts on release day, but sometimes it lifts 3-5 days before album release. I'm excited to read reviews and think it will create even more hype for the album. Imagine if at that time Katy Perry was the one who released ARTPOP. I think she’ll get better reviews as it’ll be perceived as a growth and something deep.
