What's wrong with enjoying leaks?

I personally don't see the problem with listening to a demo thats quite different to the final version... which seems to be the case for the tracks on Chromatica.

nothing. i listened to the rom snippet leaks and i bought the single x2 and have streamed it 50+ times, including the music video 10 times over...she’s not losing money from people like us and the general public isn’t out on shady foreign websites to download or listen to a lq recording of a song.

In a very, very general sense - it's wrong. I understand that we're excited for new music, regardless of who it is. 

For example, when SL leaked in full HQ back in January, I was super excited about it because we had been in the DARK about new music for a long long time. We had no idea what was happening or where the song came from (it could've been a scrapped song or something). Of course a bulk of fans are gonna listen to it if it's out there. Even then, nothing happened for 6 weeks until she announced it as the first single. So I didn't really feel bad. (What she really should've done was formally address it [maybe even rush-release it after a week or so] rather than sharing a meme but that's a whole different conversation.)

But when something is previously ANNOUNCED and the artist has full intention of putting out that music, it's different. It undermines their art - especially if you spread it around. HOWEVER....... as long as you BUY the album (and definitely stream it), you could argue that you're listening to something you already intend on paying full price for, I mean it's almost like a preview?

I have mixed feelings about it. Feel free to elaborate though.

I lose all the hype when I listen to leaks. When SL and ROM were released, I was like "um, ok". Even though the music video has changed my opinion about the song a lot, but anyway you're not excited at all because of leaks.

A leak is a leak, it doesn't matter if it's demo or not. Someone got hold of something they weren't suppose to and it got out. That's a leak. We still hadn't heard ROM yet.

I do think it is different because its not the final version... therefore nothing has actually been spoiled. It is illegal for someone to hack Gaga and get the demos, but if its leaked and its out there, who isn't going to listen?   It would be illegal to leak her work, and disrespectful if it was the final cut... but because it was a demo and it was leaked not by me, I don't see an issue with listening to the demo

Enjoying something illegal is wrong. That's the only explanation there.
