I think that's falsely saying that every female character in a movie who has a "lesser" role only exists to service the male character. If the roles we reversed, for example, I don't think anyone would be complaining—not saying that you are, I'm just speaking generally. I do think a valid critique of the movie was that it seemed very fast paced, from Ally's point of view. She just like jumped into stardom almost immediately. That said, I don't think that has anything to do with a "woman solely being used as plot development for the male character." The story, since the beginning, was centered around Jack. He ultimately kills himself at the end. Why not use the movie to explore him a bit more? 𝔊𝔬𝔬𝔡𝔟𝔶𝔢, ℑ'𝔩𝔩 𝔰𝔢𝔢 𝔶𝔬𝔲 𝔦𝔫 𝔪𝔶 𝔡𝔯𝔢𝔞𝔪𝔰

Official plot was "A girl becoming a star" aka A STAR IS BORN. You literally said that the story revolves around him just like I said that. Gaga played a role that supported his role in MANY ways and it can literally be a supporting role. He made that movie about himself. I don't think you understood what I wanted to say but that's okay. Also it's okay that you disagree. No, I liked the fact it was a total different story line to the other movies. Yes A STAR WAS BORN as she was a normal girl who became a star and had a troubled boyfriend. I like the story line and that’s periodt. The queen of Gagadaily. Twitter 14
Now that you’ve mentioned it. I kinda wonder why the film was more Jackson based and not Ally.
Chromatica Island 8,517
No, I felt like they were both equally shown. I agree with @Mill. The movie was the best I've seen in a long time. Any/All Pronouns, Genderfluid🏳⚧

ADVENTURE 856
Tbh I had never seen the other version so I just assumed it revolved around the male character. I think you’re right.
Daylight Jokers 14,958
I mean, if that was his main motivation, then he did a great job cuz it did win a few Oscars. Unfortunately, he didn't win one for himself. I disagree with Gaga being more like a supporting role cuz the best thing about the film is watching these two characters' journey both as individuals and a couple. One went from being a star to almost a nobody while the other one is experiencing the complete opposite. The story wouldn't work without Ally...obviously. And let's not make this about the battle of the sexes please.

If I did I'd mention the fact that Ally is literally the only woman we see in that movie BUT I'm not going there. I'm just thinking that Ally in the movie served as a way to show Jackson and his problems. I never felt like we got to see Ally enjoying her fame or just being Ally.. Jackson was ALWAYS there to take away the spotlight and it's pretty prominent if you take a good look at the movie. Watched it the other night and I really felt like that's the case. ryhanna 3,507
Nope. Imo the film is pretty clearly about the duality of the two characters and the effect they have on each other as their positions change. She's a struggling artist, he's a burnt out star. She becomes a legitimate star, he goes off the deep end.

Sometimes that happens in real life where relationships can affect careers and it affected there relationship. he was trying to drag ally down with him. Exactly the point I was trying to make. I felt like the main point of the movie was alcoholism and codependent relationships which IMO never reflected on Ally..
