DiskoBaby 1,929
Of course he wanted a Oscar with this movie. The entire movie was Oscar bait. It'll always be Oscar bait. It's such an easy movie to remake because the story is so dramatic and is so true to Hollywood. Stefani was smart to do this movie.
ANVEEROY 61,216
Fantastic Interpretation! Also, he was very much upset with not getting Best Director nomination.. Like see, he still got a nomination for JOKER this year, but the whole ASIB narrative echos your interpretation. Stream Kylie-Janet Discographies! My point is he didn't made a big fuss about getting a nomination for JOKER, A Star Is Born was really dear to him - obviously he put heart and soul on it. Stream Kylie-Janet Discographies! Guest Adarsh
The movie is perfect but yes they could’ve had more Ally scenes.
Ziggy 11,835
Honestly no, and I think thinking that way is way too nefarious. I think that the story really just resonated with Bradley since it’s about substance abuse (in most iterations including this one) and he’s struggled with that in the past. So then when he was making the movie, I think since he identified with it so much, he naturally wrote the most depth into those parts. That speaks to the importance of having different perspectives in the room, though, like women or POC because had they been there, it might have been a bit more balanced in representation. Hurem 17,800
I don't care why he made the movie, I'm just thankful he made it. It was amazing and I wouldn't change a thing about it.

Like I watched previous versions and it was all about the star aka female star who is becoming a star and she's the main focus as it should be.. but with this version I honestly feel like he completely took the spotlight to himself and put Jackson's problems in front of Ally. Gaga felt like a supporting role IMO. I honestly feel like he wanted Gaga to play the role because he needed the movie to get more attention.. it just felt like Ally was there only for Jackson to be able to show and explain his problems.. Am I the only one who feels this way? Please be respectful! No need for unnecessary arguing and stuff. I just want to hear what y'all think about this and is anyone sharing my opinions. ALSO I'D LIKE TO SAY that I'm absolutely thankful to Bradley because he truly helped Gaga's career. This opinion only applies to the actual movie itself. You know what, I think you make a very good point. And that's not to say it's a bad thing - good for him for wanting more for himself. But yes I can see it. chaeri pls
spicedchy 184
It always struck me as a passion project of his first, and then evolved into something that he knew could be positioned for critical acclaim. And he did what he had to do in order to make the remake fresh and culturally relevant, or there would have been no film, at least under Warner Bros. The story is very much about a star being born, just from a different lens from Ally’s at times, and I don’t think that in any way diminishes Ally’s importance. As for casting Gaga, I’d take what he said about needed an actress capable of meeting the musical demands of the film, especially with such a tight schedule, at face value. They weren’t going to have a non-established performer in the role anyway.

It’s a complete bookend of her story—the Oh I don't think his movie diminished Ally's importance AT ALL.. I think she was really important to the movie but not as a focus of the movie but as a way to show Jackson's struggles if that makes any sense? Poker 3,713
I agree with you. The pov of the movie was on his character. Kindness rules all.

I felt like the main point of the movie was alcoholism and codependent relationships which IMO never reflected on Ally.. I disagree. Ally is just as addicted as Jackson. One is addicted to substance and the other is addicted to love. More than half of the movie is about Ally trying to fix someone that, deep down, she knows she cannot fix. You might think it's "supporting" Jackson's role but it's not, because it tells nothing more about him. It's about Ally's personality and her resiliance (and almost obsession) to attempting to fix something broken. This dependance to Jackson will lead her to be broken too. It's her character development: a normal but somewhat happy girl falling into addiction (love) and becoming a broken superstar. She reached her dream but can't have her happy ending
hELXIG 43,030
Tbh I feel like that was Gaga's influence. She's spoken about how important Jack's story arc is, shining a light on male depression and suicide etc, and how she forced Bradley to sing and write songs and be more involved I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin. AnglerfishbraBENUS 5,734
There's a lot wrong with the movie IMHO. The fact alone that Diggin My Grave is not in the movie (Bradley's lil short performance doesn't count) is a CRIME
