The woman behind 'Roe vs. Wade' was paid to change her mind on abortion

When Norma McCorvey, the anonymous plaintiff in the landmark Roe vs. Wade case, came out against abortion in 1995, it stunned the world and represented a huge symbolic victory for abortion opponents: “Jane Roe” had gone to the other side. For the remainder of her life, McCorvey worked to overturn the law that bore her name.

But it was all a lie, McCorvey says in a documentary filmed in the months before her death in 2017, claiming she only did it because she was paid by antiabortion groups including Operation Rescue.

“I was the big fish. I think it was a mutual thing. I took their money and they’d put me out in front of the cameras and tell me what to say. That’s what I’d say,” she says in “AKA Jane Roe,” which premieres Friday on FX. “It was all an act. I did it well too. I am a good actress.”

In what she describes as a “deathbed confession,” a visibly ailing McCorvey restates her support for reproductive rights in colorful terms: “If a young woman wants to have an abortion, that’s no skin off my ass. That’s why they call it choice.”

Just a gentle reminder that abortion kills more black people in America than homicide, suicide, AIDS, car accidents, cancer, heart disease and all other reasons COMBINED.

African Americans comprise 13% of the US population but African American women have 36% of al abortions.

Now, just to be clear, i’m not saying that abortion is racist. I’m also not saying that abortion is class warfare.

There’s no way this is true when heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in America... where did you find this info?

Not to be rude, but abortions kills less than 10 people a year. I know what you are implying, but you do not "kill" a fetus as it is not a person, rather a collection of cells. The less than 10 people who die are women who, due to shame and availability/legality, receive unsafe abortions. Whether they are legal or not, women will go out and seek abortions if they want one. But, if they are made illegal and/or hard to get, more women will die. Statistics show when abortion becomes easier to get, less women die from abortions. This is because they are going to a safe place (like Planned Parenthood for example) to get an abortion rather than a shady unofficial place, or in some cases attempting to do them on themselves.

Also, when you shame people by saying underage sex is bad and just not to do it, people end up doing it without protection, get pregnant, and then because of the shame associated with it in society, get an abortion to hide the fact that they had sex. But, because the same people who want abstinence only education also want abortion illegal, they are forced to go to a shady place and/or do it on themselves to get one, which comes with major risks.

If you truly want abortion rates to go down making abortion illegal won't do that. It will just cause more women to get hurt and possibly die from an unofficial abortion.

This shouldn't be a race issue, but since you made it one, the reason abortion is more prevalent in communities of color is because communities of color are way more likely to have worse education systems due to systematic racism and poor funding. So, even if their state/district allows proper sexual education, the school may not be able to afford a proper health curriculum. And so, the cycle that started with poor education starts again.

But, in reality, I'm a male so it isn't even my position to say what a woman wants to do to her body.

I don't think abortion is counted as a "cause of death" :hmm:

I'm not sure what race has to do with abortion though  like, that's an interesting statistic I guess.

What does this have to do with anything ?

Any person from whatever race, age or group that has a abortion has nothing to do with you or anyone for that matter.

Spoiler

Abortions don't kill people by the way.
