Why though...

Highly specific medication. It's basically the treatment for lupus.

(it's not used so much for malaria these days, at least not as a first-line treatment).

Anyway, he's not the one saying it, so take it with a grain of salt. And even if he did say it, don't believe everything he says. It's highly unlikely that someone like Trump would use it just for the sake of it, he's very smart when it comes to his own belly.

Because he owns interest in the company that manufactures it. He is basically a paid spokes woman for that medication now.

For people like my sister and cousin who take this to treat their lupus symptoms and rely on it to live a normal life, and are being told they can’t get it (they’re splitting doses over days so it will last longer in hopes of being able to get some eventually), it’s disgusting that of course it’s readily available to someone like trump who doesn’t actually need it. :fthis:

Do you  trust going to Donald Trump for medical advice?

I'd literally rather take advice from someone here than to take advice from him

I was just kidding around

Actual MD here, hydroxychloroquine is not approved for profilaxis treatment. It needs close medical supervision when administered to patients, which I'm sure trump has. However I'm sure most of his following will take it without any kind of medical supervision and this is why it's dangerous for him to mention it. Hydroxychloroquine is being used in patients with COVID however these patients are severe and on respirators and not asymptomatic. The first time trump mentioned hydroxychloroquine stock was bought out of most pharmacies and now I'm afraid they're going to start taking it.

THIS!
If he is taking the hydroxychloroquine with the support of a team of doctors and specialists, he should remember that his supporters didn't even have universal healthcare. So it's not okay to a president say something like this in a scenario of fear and misinformation about COVID-19 and not expect that a lot of people will take this without any medical support.

and why are we outraged by this today?

It's one thing to make personal decisions, it's another to endorse them as president when millions support you like a death cult.

If the virus is a hoax and it’s no worse than the flu, why does he even need to take these things? I don’t understand why people would flock to buy these medications that may not even work for them, but they refuse to do things that would help prevent the spread such as wear masks and socially distance.

For all the people mocking those who call this stuff out...

It's because Trump isn't being responsible about this. He's just acting like hydroxychloroquine is something you pop in your mouth after dinner. It's not advil... You can't give out medical advice when you don't give it out recklessly.

I’d much rather take preventive measures than have to pay to put a medication in my body that I don’t really need! The fact that a doctor would prescribe them to people just to  possibly prevent Covid also blows my mind

It’s what many are suggesting to take as a preventative measure for COVID-19

My mom has taken hydroxychloroquine for her arthritis for years & when she did a missions trip in Panama a few months ago, she was the only one on her team to not get COVID. It worked for her it seems

They didn’t say it doesn’t work, just that it isn’t tested and that it can also cause heart irregularities so it’s not ideal when other people (like your mom) actually need the drug.

I haven't been able to get it for my rheumatoid arthritis either :fthis:   F*ck Trump

Spoiler

I hope they're both doing alright   I'm alright without it and have gone without it before due to insurance but I know lupus can be a completely different story

He's not publicly endorsing this? Just a journalist claiming that this is what he said to her. But does his followers even read the media that this will be reported on to be influenced by that? He didn't report on Twitter publicly about taking that. We don't actually know if this is true or not.
