Holding the Man is my favorite gay movie.

I don’t really watch a lot of gay movies bc they’re often disingenuous. Especially movies like Love, Simon which are clearly marketing towards a straight audience and offer a washed-down, bland, and safe depiction of growing up gay. This video sums it up pretty well:

Moonlight literally cried throughout the movie. A masterpiece

- Moonlight
- Call Me By Your Name
- Dolor y Gloria (Almodóvar’s “Pain and Glory”, I strongly recommend this)
- Love, Simon

and in that order... I think these are the only gay themed movies I ever saw and I’m open for more, I want to really get the feels :messga:

I highly recommend Holding The Man. It’s a romance set in the 70s-80s and based in real life. I’ll warn you that it’s very sad tho, and it’s set during the AIDS crisis

Call Me By Your Name and Moonlight made me care about movies more than I did before.

A few others worth mentioning are The Way He Looks (dir. D. Ribeiro, 2014)

There's a short film before this one that actually lead to this movie. The short is called "I don't wanna go back home alone" and the movie is "Today I want to go back home alone" (Brazilian Portuguese titles). I liked both films, my only critic is that it feels like the characters almost live in a bubble.

It's almost fairy tale in a sense that the character doesn't face any sort of judgment or struggle for his sexuality. It's kinda a "no LGBTphobia place", like a utopia :wtfga: so it makes me think it's a good film but very far fetched from reality
