katy perry, britney spears, rihanna, lady gaga, etc.

Says who? Lady Gaga hasn't been a big star since Born This Way, and she's relying on Ariana Grande for a hit single now. Katy Perry lost her mojo after Prism. Rihanna hasn't been making music since 2016. And nobody outside her fanbase even remembers a recent Britney song after Womanizer.

They're pop stars of the past.

I feel like she's been releasing the same song for years now but at least she's serving the gays!

you're being kinda dense sis :enigma:

main pop girl boils down to mainstay artists that are recognized by the GP, have hits and a recognizable public persona, regardless of current chart success. If you ask anyone on the street about Katy, Ariana, Rihanna, Britney, Taylor, Gaga (who just had a MASSIVE re-peak so idk what you're talking about) etc they know who they are

no one knows who Charli is outside of gay twitter

who will love me when the night is over

Sure everyone knows them, everyone knows Cher and Cyndi Lauper but they're not relevant to pop today.

Britney Spears has only been relevant in the 2000s decade, she doesn't have a big fanbase to support her anymore. Only Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande that you listed are relevant to pop music right now. Along with Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa. Maybe Rihanna because she's likable enough and has a good team to always come back with a smash hit. Katy Perry is famous enough that people know her but they know her past hits. Same with Gaga who needs to use Ariana Grande for streaming relevancy.

And this is only to women. Men are more relevant in music right now. Why this fanbase only obsesses with "pop girls" is beyond me. :coffee:

So your list should really reflect pop stars who are relevant to the charts right now, not singers people just know. I know who Alicia Keys is but seriously, come on...

I mean...I'm pretty sure the absolutely colossal success of the ASIB era would disagree with you but okay. What a strange comment :air:

Okay, but common sense would tell you that Alicia Keys is not a main pop girl :rip:

if Britney is not relevant today then why does every other post on her instagram go viral? She may not be releasing music but she is still a main presence in pop music, and that’s a fact.

Cher and Cyndi are not main pop girls because, like Madonna, they are legends. You damn well know the difference sis, and you’re obviously trying to start something by sprinkling that obvious Gaga flamebait in your posts. Relevant artists in today’s charts =/= main pop girls

anywho, I love main pop girls Gaga, Britney, Katy and Taylor, and gay twitter sensation Charli XCX :applause:

not Chromatica

Charli isn't a main pop girl, but I think she's so much more. While she was trying to be one she had to sacrifice her desired sound & image and play by the industry rules. Her label didn't let her release the stuff she wanted to. She was miserable. Now she's in the sweet spot between mainstream pop artist and underground qween of the gays and I love that for her. Although I would also love to see her score a hit of her own—I'm not counting Senorita—seeing her just do what she loves, all the while serving us bops upon bangers upon anthems... it's priceless, honestly. She's just so wholesome and I'm so grateful for her.

That's because the idea of a "pop girl" is made up by figgy stan bases. Alicia Keys music is labeled pop and get's played on pop radio.

It really makes no sense to include a singer who hasn't been relevant since 2008 to be included by singers of today's standards, and singers who re way pass their prime in popularity. What does Mariah Carey really have in common with Taylor Swift, and what does Britney Spears have in common with Ariana Grande, and what does Lady Gaga have in common with Billie Eilish? If you want to create a team of popular female singers at least be consistent with the hierarchy

Well, she already said she was doing two albums in 2019 to be released in 2021, right after CharliHow I'm Feeling Now is the unexpected album. With all the time in her hands, work just moved on.

So much discussion over "quantity" and "main pop girl"...

No, she's not a "main" pop girl, obviously no one really knows her besides her fans and people who are really into music (no just "gay twitter". She is getting rave reviews from a different audience who's just really into experimental electronic stuff, mostly because of the producers she works with for a long time). Her music is not played on the radios. She promotes herself more like an indie pop artist.

But so? Seriously, how will "main pop girl" status change her work? Budget-wise? Really? She did a full album, with music videos, during lockdown, at home. And it's better than anything a "main pop girl" has released at least in a year.

Plus, she has released consistently amazing albums over the last at least 4 years, and by amazing I mean worthy of a true pop music master. And an album she did in six weeks is better than some albums that take years to make, god knows why. This girl is all quantity and quality. And with this How I'm Feeling Now she really took her fans to an incredible experience. Her fans collaborated with her, and followed her progress during the making of the album. Imagine if you had built Chromatica alongside Gaga. Charli XCX took the artistic opportunity that lockdown offered and truly went for it.

She's in a roll creatively, I hope she keeps delivering. Sure, she has been based in the same genre/sound for a while, but I'm sure it's just something she truly enjoys exploring and she absolutely excels at that.

She had a comeback with Shallow, but mostly due to the hype and awards season promoting A Star is Born. And because she showed a different side of herself to the public. Otherwise she's a hit and miss getting a hit herself since 2013. It's usually she peaks at her debut and then falls down the charts after.
