Yes, and that's great art when considered in context. Pop art as a movement was all about reconfiguring notions of what made something "art" to begin with. Lichtenstein reproducing comic panels large scale was meant to deliberately question notions of originality, meant to remove the "human touch" from art to see what remained. Or going back to the Dada movement, Duchamp can mount a urinal and call it art, and it's brilliant because it's a deliberate middle finger to a privileged "establishment." These art works are functioning on conceptual planes that I don't see here at all.

This just feels like a collection of surreal and provocative images. But unlike great surrealist images, I don't see these communicating anything deeper, nor do they have any wit, nor are they particularly aesthetically engaging (the mechanical bull in storm perhaps being the closest to attaining an interesting look/effect). This feels like the kind of "experimental" films a bunch of film school noobs would make. And I was part of a film program--I've sat through plenty of painful student films.

But perhaps they have a meaning to Azealia? It's the artists work.

And nobody saw any great art in Andy's films at the time, everyone said it was underground trash with no meaning. It was only later that it was lauded.

I've got this feeling that BWET might become one of those albums I consider worth to be bought, I usually buy ( :lolgaga: ) them digital, but I bought really good ones like TF/TFM/BTW and some Björk albums just for the sake of having them physical

I am definitely buying both a digital and physical copy. Tbh I hope does a limited edition deluxe preorder or something. I had just bought the physical version of the 1991 EP and actually holding it in my hands was something quite special.

You can say this sort of thing about anything, though. I mean, I can take a horrible poem by a depressed teenager and say "it has meaning for them." Doesn't make it good. And just because something is lauded further down the line doesn't mean everything that's not lauded now will have that same sort of critical re-evaluation.

I'm MORE than happy to hear people write in favor of this video and what they think is working and why (truth be told, I'm a nerdy academic at heart and love reading art criticism, and really great art criticism has made me re-evaluate works I initially didn't like), but I haven't seen any of that. Nobody's really said what the symbolism is, or why it might be compelling, or even why they find the images themselves noteworthy.

Again, I'm not trying to squelch peoples' enthusiasm. Just putting in my two cents. I'm more than happy to read about why people love this and take those things into consideration.

But at the end of the day, music video's not have to be full of symbolism. Fitting imagery which goes well with the song is predominately what music videos do.
