There is no other way. I hope this pandemic shows the American public that we need government officials with experience and political skills so they can manage crises like this. An actual politician would've much better managed--perhaps not necessarily the containment of the virus itself--but the publics reaction to it and the wide spread panic it had caused. I think the most diplomatic thing he could have done would be to endorse Joe Biden once in a public statement, maybe go to a few of his rallies, and then let the American People make their decision.
