HDD: 200k?

I'm not sure what to expect at this point, but in a non-pandemic world this album easily would have sold 310k-350k in the first week. I personally will be going to get a physical copy of the album, but not sure how many others will. I think 200k is a safe prediction, but hopefully it does more.

You pessimists need to sit there and eat your food

She did just over 200k with JOANNE, a country-pop album with no big hit attached to it that also leaked in full before release. In 2016. When she was apparently "over"

Not me expecting at least 350k with all the bundles + Ariana & Blackpink featured on the album :selena:

true this, but not too early. They have predictive industry know-how. I don't see a lot of hype for CHROMATICA in the US unfortunately. She's consistent era to era though. At the moment, 200k is kind of a stretch, I think, as they said.

Once Rain On Me is released, I reckon this first-week figure may elevate.

That why i said! it is to early they kinda use the stupid love success to do there estimations but not ROM

I kind of figured this would happen. The album will open to lower sales, because of the pandemic, and then the same fans dragging Gaga for not releasing music (even tho it's Interscope) will...drag Gaga for not selling as much as she could have if there wasn't a pandemic. If Gaga was a streaming monster, there wouldn't be much of an issue, but she's not. She'll probably do 200k, tho, imo. I think she would have done less if she had released earlier, before some of the lockdowns partially lifted.

The same article is also debating the merits of holding on to 2021, so clearly they think that's a valid option for many artists....

*And before someone goes "the Weeknd"...he's a) a streaming monster and b) released before the pandemic wasn't as bad/lockdowns weren't in full effect. Look at Dua, who had a smash hit with DSN & whose album should have sold far more even if she isn't as big in the US as she is in Europe..but her debut numbers in the US were low (under 50k, if I remember). If she dropped later, I bet she would have done 2 or even 3x more her opening week.

Pure sales, specifically digital sales, have dropped dramatically since 2017. For example, Ariana's most successful album (thank, u next) was her lowest debut in pure sales.

Say that if Chromatica has a bad debut week just because of the pandemic, it sounds more like a pretext.

Sickness

It is a shame that the pandemic hit right in the middle of her lead single release but it's also dumb to not release at least a promo single before the album (or ROM whenever that's coming). There's literally zero hype for this except for gay twitter and the thongs like...

I really think – and hope – you all are low-balling these numbers.

With Born This Way, I bought multiple copies because of the different editions. And many others did this, and she came out with nearly 500k in sales (1 mill. if you count the Amazon deal).

With ARTPOP and Joanne, I only purchased one copy (and hardly streamed because I had bought the cds) and she still came out with good numbers for those too.

I know streaming could effect her, but in my mind, she is doing everything right this era to at least come out with above a 300k debut because many fans are like me and have bought multiple copies. I have pre-ordered the signed copy, will get two digital copies from two different merch purchases and I intend on going out to Target to get the target deluxe edition and possibly a vinyl if I find one in person as I don't like getting vinyls shipped.

So, I know I'm not alone in this and many other fans will purchase multiple copies. And she knows what she is doing by offering them. I would assume that there are 100,000 fans out there alone that will go out and buy the Target edition. At least I hope!

This is off for a few reasons: With all these other albums we weren’t in the middle of a pandemic where people are afraid to leave their homes. And when they do, they aren’t going to buy CD’s. Next, pure album sales have dropped around 45% since ASIB. Next, her stadium bundle is only for 4 dates. Next, she hasn’t had a real hit. Next, she isn’t culturally relevant like she once was.

What are you talking about?

Stupid Love was a hit, not a big one, but it was a cute hit that also leaked 5 weeks before release

Isn't culturally relevant? She's the buzz of every event, she had a monster #1 smash hit last year, she can sell out stadiums, she's makes the news just by opening her mouth, and has just organised the biggest live fundraising event since the 1980s.

I’m hoping for some surprises release week/starting the 22nd. That will really get the hype going just in time for the album debut. I’ve already bought 2 versions of Chromatica PLUS the downloads from merch/show tickets so my work is done, aside from streaming the **** out of the album. I’m just so happy that new Gaga music is right on the horizon and undoubtedly she’ll have another #1 album.
