40. BEYONCE

It’s literally pink text on a black background

:billie:

Tourso was tasked with designing Beyoncé's album cover, which he found difficult considering it was a visual album and thus "inundated with imagery". Over three months he considered over a hundred options, only to proceed with his very first idea. He was inspired by the cover of Metallica's eponymous fifth studio album (1991) to create a bold statement, specifically to deviate from a "beauty shot" of Beyoncé which he felt would be expected. He used a font similar to placards used in boxing matches to represent abrasive masculinity, which was contrasted by the greyish-pink font which he described as "a subversion of femininity".

The cover reflects the album. After years of selling her beauty and sexuality, she chose something minimalist when she had something to say. It's iconic because it's what we remember about the first surprise dropped album and visual album that broke the internet from the biggest pop star. It's simply, BEYONCE.

The people that has made this list have such a bad taste

examples: Cyndi Lauper, 'She's So Unusual' - horrible

Blink-182, 'Enema of the State' - horrible

We can’t be friends. :nails:

OT: Yeah this seems more like most iconic, and even then a lot of these wouldn’t make it :classy:

Whats so dissapointing is that she had so many good photos hoots to choose from and choose something so tacky to represent the album. If I could choose one thing she could change in her career it's that awful cover. Sure it screams 80s hair metal but it's so terrible and cheaply done.

I'm at peace with it, it makes it more iconic and I think it may have been done like that on purpose.

Kind regards

It didn’t say the most beautiful, just iconic.

I agree with the Drake and Beyonce covers. Those were iconic. The memes from if you’re reading and Beyonce finally making a statement.

I’d put Abbey Road at 1 honestly. It’s more recognized than the Andy Warhol cover. Kanye’s TLOP cover is missing too. Also True Blue should be higher. Where’s Michael Jackson’s Dangerous? That’s top 30 easily. Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream should be there.

TFM’s album cover albeit a good statement wasn’t what was imprinted to the public. It was the Bad Romance video.

Its genuinely mindboggling to me that Mechanical Animals is nowhere to be found on this list.

And that’s awesome BUT I wouldn’t put it on a list like this tbh.

Yes! Crystal Castles and Radiohead deserve a spot on this list for sure.

I agree with some of these but not others. I think Elton John should have an album cover on there, either Captain Fantastic or Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. I was happy to see Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road on there, though.
