The thing is black artists don't have a chance to win the principal categories on the Grammy's and it's obvious to see it. BEYONCÉ had the same importance inside the industry as 1989, both were great departures from the past music from the artists, had an concept, sold a lot and were cultural phenomenon. But BEYONCÉ lost to an alternative album from a white artist that most people didn't know, and 1989 won from an black artist album that a lot of people agree have a great message and is a amazing music piece. Why one album won and not the other? Black artists (and other minorities) can even win on categories that were made specifically for them, but don't have a fair chance to win on the principal categories cause the Grammy's board don't take music from minorities seriously Beyonce dropped her album, did a few cute performances, then left. She didn't campaign at all. Part of her image is being above campaigning and this is one of the drawbacks of that. Taylor Swift campainged all year and released HIT singles all year. A better comparison would be I Am Sasha Fierce (despite not being a great album) where guess what? She won Song of the Year and was well on her way to winning Album until Kanye West ruined it for her.

They have to try harder then their peers to get nominated and then be ignored over mediocrity. For you what win is mediocrity but for the majority what win is what is better so that's your opinion not a fact I'm not the biggest fan of Adele and I won't care that much if she made another album or not but it's obvious that 25 was better than Lemonade. 25 was more universal appealing while Lemonade has good songs but most of her sound was for black people and the black race topics that's why Adele won cause she's more appealing and better to a wider range and that was also reflected on sales with 25 selling 20M while Lemonade sold 2M that's a reflection of what people consider better. So if a black artist doesn't win that doesn't mean the other artist is mediocre or the Grammys are racist except for you cause your faves ain't winning. I LOVE Taylor and Adele but this isn’t even close to true. Sold better =\= cultural impact. I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill. Eminem, Iggy, and Macklemore lost the big categories too. They do like R&B and jazz though. Because the lyrical content, isntruments, melodies is more traditional and safe. The Grammys prefer safe and traditional. Rap is the opposite of that. So is heavy metal and hard rock which why they never win either.

I brought up black musicians because I found it strange that despite black musicians dominating the music industry, they're still not good enough for the most popular prizes of the year and lose out to more white musicians by who are not as musically innovative by comparison. Is this supposed to be a joke? Name one act that can rival BTS and Blackpink’s popularity right now.

And they also don't like rap which is still a relatively new genre. I don't think disliking rap makes them racist. I think the reason for not liking rap is because it emphasizes beats over instruments, rapping over traditional vocals, samples, lack of melodies, and subject wise talks about a lot of violence. Those are not bad qualities, but I just think musicians are snobby and prefer their music to be made with more instruments and melodies. White Eminem also hasn't won a big award despite being the biggest rapper and having plenty of chances. There are some examples of racism in the Grammys, but I think people are quick to label every loss as due to racism. This would make sense but Kendrick Lamar defied ALL THOSE EXPECTATIONS. he uses live instruments and jazz playing. He uses soul and gospel samples. He has some of the most sophisticated wordplay. His music has deep and political themes being addressed. The last rap album to win album of the year was Outkast for their most pop sounding album. And Lauryn Hills album. Steely Dan over Eminem in 2001, Herbie Hancock over Kanye and Amy Winehouse come to mind immediately. Country music is also underrepresented consistently in the GF, so I think a stronger argument here would be Grammy bias against certain genres, not races. But at the end of the day, awards are inherently subjective. You can make the case all you want for an album bsed on merit, and someone else can make their case for a different album based on merit. It's when you inject the accusation of racism into the conversation that it ceases to become interesting Exactly. Country has like 4 Album wins, 1 Record and 1 Song win. Dance has 2 Album wins, 1 Record win, and 0 Song wins Heavy Metal/Hard Rock has 0 of each R&B has 4 Album win, 3 Record wins, 3 Song wins Jazz has too many Album wins to count Country is too niche. It does well when it crosses over to the masses. Ditto for R&B. Dance is similar to hip hop in that it relies on beats, samples, etc. Heavy metal is too harsh. Grammys like their music safe and traditional, regardless of color. They have a gender bias.

What a moment. An actual artist winning over shallow songs about sex and token feminism that weren't even written by the singer who performed them. A joke. And what's the difference from 1989? 1989 is an album were Taylor talks about love and breakups. The thing is, both albums were the most important female albums from their respective years (BEYONCÉ being in the top 10 of best selling records when her album was released 3 weeks before the year ended, and selling more than Taylor if you add the sales from 2013 and 2014) and helped boost the sales of albums. Also, Beyoncé made a great impact on music dropping the album with all those music videos with zero promotion and stopping the internet. What I meant on my post is, they are both just pop records that are not as groundbreaking conceptually than others in AOTY category? Yeah, maybe, but if that's true, why Beyoncé lost to an white artist who had and 'better' (lyrically, conceptually, sonically) album, and Taylor won against a black artist who had a 'better' (lyrically, conceptually, sonically) album? What's the difference here? I don't know how to write in english
