TBH I'm pretty sure if Gaga, Ariana, Rihanna, Bey, etc. only put out songs like this as singles they would constantly have #1s (or at least top 5s) because the sound appeals to nearly everyone. I don't mean it as shade (Ariana is one of my favs), but fans who b*tch about Gaga not charting higher while simultaneously calling songs basic....don't seem to get that "safe" is the easiest way to chart nowadays for a pop-ish song. It's isn't about "safe" it's about appeal. IMO JD LG BR PF all Gaga's hits appealed to the GP. GGD has a history of labeling Gaga's songs as complicated and daring and using that as a reason that it doesn't click with the GP is a false narrative. A song has appeal or it doesn't have appeal no matter how complicated or uncomplicated it is. I haven't heard ROM. But it's going to be hard to have equal interest in two Ariana songs at the same time. Inevitably they will be compared and people will have a favorite of the two. It's going to be harder for people to choose Gaga's colab instead of Justin's colab especially when Justin's colab is actually very good and it's very evocative of the current situation we are living in. That is the only reason I posted my comment. An example: in the 80's and 90's acts like Bon Jovi, Madonna, Michael Jackson Janet Jackson and some other were churning out complicated hits politically charged music. But at the end if the day that music no matter how complicated had GP appeal spoke to what was happening in the GP at the time.
