When it was first delayed, COVID was just starting to happen and no one knew how bad things would get. The uncertainty made releasing an album not a good move, especially since Gaga's plans for release and promo were postponed.

Now we all know that things are going to remain shut down probably until at least the fall. Gaga has had time to accept that her plans for promo and release are simply not going to happen anytime soon, or even this year. The leaks were probably the final nail in the coffin for Gaga holding out the release until she could proceed with her original plans.

TL;DR - Gaga had time to accept that a normal album release isn't going to happen this year - release it herself or it will leak.

yeah it feels like a total waste of time. We could have had the album for weeks and now we will have it much later with basically the same results of if she had released it earlier. It's a bit of a mess in all honesty. I think Gaga and her team had a knee jerk reaction of postponing perhaps out of hope things owuld get better (despite the fact experts were saying things wouldnt by now lol). But yeah...

To pretend that she’s so sensitive and caring that she’s rather delay an album for a fake moral high ground because (not the right time) and that she’s so busy with philanthropy that she delayed the album when in reality, it’s just damage control since she’s likely isn’t confident enough to launch it without proper promo and doesn’t want it to flop, and now she’s scared of leaks so she’s rather release it than have it leak and have her hand forced.

They were just being safe as the situation could have got a lot worse with millions dying potentially, they were preparing for a worst case scenario which would have stopped the era dead in its tracks

I mean, I’ve stopped checking the numbers on the US, but in most parts of the world the situation is starting to improve. And anyways, it’s obvious she wanted to focus on her philanthropy work first. She knows she can release later on, so she decided to shift her attention to something else for a while. Simple as that. I bet they also had to rethink their whole schedule to fit the current situation.

I read this as if she was going to shelve Chromatica forever.  So we were complaining that she delayed and now we're complaining she's releasing it too soon after the delay?  What the hell are y'all on.  Christ.

Anyway, I'm done posting in here.  It's clear OP is looking for an echo-chamber and not actual debate.  @OP I mean no ill-will to you, but we just all need to move on.  There's more to life than a pop album and at the end of the day, we're about three weeks away from the release.  We have more music to look forward to between now and then.

There are always non fans who do as leaks get covered in media such as news articles in magazines. It ofteb appears on social media such as Twitter and more prompting the GP to listen to it. 

So yeah leaks get to the GP as well.

I disagree. Every week further away from the original release day was a little more mitigation regarding the pandemic and the infection curve. During 10th of April (and during the original planned release week of Chromatica) Europe was pretty much still in full lockdown and the USA had its peak in infections and death rates. 

The virus won't go away for a long time however the situation was way more dicey on the 10th of April then it will be on the 29th of May. For example my country has slowly opened up starting from 14th of April in 2-weeks-spans and all shops have opened since 1st of May. And the numbers speak for themselves: infection rates still have decreased, the chain of infection for new infections have been very well retraceable. 

Her team was very much aware that the virus was still around but they had a time frame after the postponement and they wanted to release the album when situation is not the worst but clearly a little bit better.
