Because he is a streaming artist (with a smash hit) and doesn't need pure sales which are dead due to the quarantine.

I was pro not releasing it but with the leaks going on I changed my mind cause leaks DO HURT AN ALBUM'S MOMENTUM. I've heard only Babylon snippet and didn't want to search others. I don't think GP are looking for leaks anyway.

I'm actually curious how much physical albums she sells compared to digital sales and streaming. Starting with ARTPOP. Doesn't she still sell more digital albums the most? In terms of physical albums, I still see no reason to delay an album for those sales when it can be delivered and stores like Walmart and Target never really closed down. You really think people are going to go buy an album when the virus was at its highest. Joanne: 201,000 overall, 170,000 pure A Star Is Born: 231,000, 162,000 pure As you can see, she relies heavily on pure sales. - Gaga was never a huge streaming artist. - No one was going to buy an album when they need other resources. - Gaga basically needed to "rely" on digital albums the most, which may not even be as good as she usually does. His label IS her label and considering he was number one for a month and that overlapped with Gaga’s old release I would wager they decided to let his release have the legs it needed to have while they readjusted their strategy for Gaga. Yes she might be a bigger name but right now he is the more popular artist chromatica will not be number one for a month and we won’t get two number one singles off of it. He was ending the momentum of a campaign that was going on since last year she had one single and one video that’s not enough to carry an era on its own. The thing is you don't need to go out of your home for an album, you just order it from Amazon or every store that delivers. If you had no choice, that's what would have happened. Going out to the store doesn't increase sales anymore then seeing it online. I also want to point out, Lady Gaga is not a physical album artist. Physical CD albums are dead. Anyone buying a physical copy of her album is buying it as a novelty just like vinyl records. Lady Gaga is a digital artist who relies on iTunes and other digital platforms. So it would make no difference buying her album on iTunes and then ordering a physical one from Amazon or Walmart. Because I guarantee you the people buying physical albums are already ordering digital copies or streaming on YouTube and Spotify. Nobody buys just physical CD albums anymore unless they're a big fan and want to support them on all platforms and have something to display.

Postponing it for a month seemed really pointless to me. "But she was doing philanthropy work for Covid-19" but would releasing a new album really have gotten in the way of that? "She didn't have time to do the promo she wanted to" there's only three weeks until it comes out, I fail to see what kind of promo she can do now that she couldn't do leading up till April. What difference did one month really make? In the US things are actually getting better compared to a month ago. My state has just reopened restaurants and shopping malls this week. A month does make a difference if people can go out...

Also, as I said, she would only be relying mostly on digital albums. Physical album sales were at its lowest sales frame in Nielsen history, plus Streaming fell during this time. https://qz.com/1820896/music-streaming-may-actually-be-falling-because-of-coronavirus/

People are still criticizing places opening up again. It's only happening because the government wants to rush businesses to reopen again and people are sick of staying at home and would take the risk. It's still ready high here. KatieJudasGaga4 67,907
Plus, The Weeknd had tour bundles and that increased his sales tremendously aswell.

People say he's a streaming artist yet streaming is down. Do people are buying his albums to the point where he can top the charts for weeks. Streaming is a very low metric when it comes to the charts. So he has a fan base and is popular enough where people are actively buying his music and supporting him.
